performance chips

and I wouldn't bother until you have done all the other mods you plan to do...

He can still do the chip...but when he finishes the mods he wish he could pay 125 dollars and get a new burned file and just add it to his pcm:shrug:.

Meanwhile he would gain a good increase on low end tq better mpgs and some top end. But the biggest gain i hear from a stock v6 is the low end tq increase.

please explain

older vehicles required replacing a "chip" to change computer parameters. all obdII 96+ (and some 95s) cars are flashable and simply use a programmer or computer to modify a bin file and change parameters. so there are no performance "chips" for these cars, they are just reprogrammed.

Our cars run off an obd2 setup:shrug: So i don't know where you are getting your information from. We are able to place xcals old chips etc etc on our cars.

The old obd1 like my old fox body mustang could take a superchip. I attached it to the pcm my self when it was done at pauls high performance.

obd1's can not be tuned with a downloaded file....which is what the xcal does. IT can be re flashed or chipped.

did i not say they were obdII?? an xcal is a programmer, not a chip, what are you talking about?

isnt that what i said, older vehicles use chips

the fact is that you cannot buy a preprogrammed chip and plop it in your computer like the older cars. sure if the xcal itself has different chips thats a totally different thing.

he is asking for a performance chip for his obdII car and i just cringe everytime i hear that. my friend used to do that all the time, he used to say are you gonna get a Jet performance chip for your camaro? NO! it is dyno tuned. drove me NUTZ!

Diablosport and Superchips used to make plug-in chips for our cars. Jet still makes one. Your information is wrong. Please stop spouting about things you don't know about.

I ran a SCT chip on my Turbo 3.0L 96 starting out (provided by ADC, formerly Street Flight...in fact this was the only tuning they offered at the time until the XCAL became available) and then later went to a reflashed PCM just because thats what my other tuner preferred to do.

hourang, not sure where you are getting your info, but you can do either one. Nautilus Performance pretty much does XCAL's as the standard, but they will tune chips too. An XCAL is much better than a chip in fact that in can hold multiple tunes, can tweek the tune yourself directly from the XCAL, can pull codes, etc.

Well he's partially right. There is a difference between the replacement "chip" on the OBDI cars vs. piggyback chips used on OBDII. But for most, the preferred OBDII scenario is a reflash.

But yeah, the arrogant tone is unwarranted. Performance threads should always be full of peace and harmony...

right...I used a Jet chip in my '99 before I went turbo...I guess it was my imagination

yeah a piggypack device is a totally different thing. nevermind anyway, you guys misunderstand anything i say. i guess im just used to the ls1 world, where everyone gets upset when you mention anything about a chip. and also my friend who thinks you can get a Jet performance chip for any car in the world and its the best thing next to sliced bread
