makes sense. I know ctmystique repalced one of the transistors in the imrc on his mystique via the hightower how-to. he might have gotten the transistor locally if that is the one we are talking about. might ask him about it.

I do remember doing that, but I don't remember where I got the part. If I had to guess I would say Cables and Connectors is probably where I got it.

Where did you find a replacement transistor? The only place I've been able to find the proper replacement (according to Hightower's fix) is online. Neither Radioshack or the local electronics supply store had the transistor specified.

Hightowers fix calls for a TIP121. after looking up the datasheets we determined that the TIP120 that radioshack sells is the same except for max voltage. the TIP121 is good to 80V while the TIP120 is only good for 60V. obviously both of those are well above whats needed for the IMRC.

If I take a trip up to Aircougar's this weekend, where my car is stored, I'm going to pull the IMRC off and try out your fix striker.

make sure that you use the plastic screw and that the piece of real thin material is between transistor and the case or the transistor will be shorted to ground. also, if its not bolted down by the screw it may over heat and cause the same thing.

If your missing the screw or yours is broken, a new one can be sourced in packs of 3 at home depot. they are #6-32 sized nylon bolts. they are too long but you can just cut them to the correct length. also, the heads are slightly to large for the hole in the circuit board but just a little bit of sanding will solve that problem.
