Oil Change problem - Stripped Thread!

Anyone have word on the pickup and dipstick?

I had a brainwave earlier today. I am going to drive to the mechanic, but I'll have a friend follow me and they can beep or call me if it starts to leak. As long as they are paying attention it should give me enough time to get off the road and shut it down.

I would check with Bill Jenkins he would know for sure.... but you actually expect to get off the road b4 you run out of oil..... good luck with that, aren't you in socal? you will already be stuck in a traffic jamb with no where to go when it happens and at the worst possible moment.... like your friend will get cut off and be several cars back when he starts to see it and then comes up on you sitting there with a seized engine.... :nonono:

But I can be wrong too....

Made it in with no problems, except the shop said the manual says 3 hours to change the oil pan so its going to cost way more than I thought. They will only charge me actual time though and I can't see it taking that long.
Your right though, I was really worried whenever I was sitting still cause if it went then I would have been toast :D.

3hrs?????..... how about 25 minutes if you take a 10 minute break in the middle...:nonono:

Ahhhh you raise the car, drain the oil, remove the Y pipe, take a break, remove the pan bolts, wipe everything down, check the pickup tube clean screen if necessary, install new gasket and sealant as specified, install pan within 6 minutes (IIRC), reinstall the Y pipe, lower car, and add oil. Run car check for leaks - oil and exhaust........ This isn't a big deal thing to do.....

I just pulled one in the jy took all of about 8 minutes, but then I did spray PB Blaster on the Y pipe nuts first.... but still you get the idea

Of course I was laying on my back in gravel and I had the proper tools (a breaker bar, ratchet, deep sockets and extentions) but I'm a carpenter and perhaps a real mechanic does it differently after all what the heck do I know about it...... did I hear someone say find a different shop?????

Like I said, they only charge actual labour and they just quoted me from their guide book. We will see what they say when I go pick it up.

I'll be interested in the outcome as I'm sure we all will..... And if you need some help getting them straight, I know several hundred young battle hardened Marines personally that are just down the road.... I could ask a dozen or so to stop by and help you out ..... LOL
