As far as I know, the Accord that I mentioned does not require premium fuel. There are quite a few vehicles with higher HP & good fuel economy that do not require premium fuel.

I believe the 190hp version does but the 177hp version does not. I know that their 270hp v6 specs premium but know people probably run regular in it.

im disapointed in the engine, its claimed to only get 30 MPG highway... doesnt make any sense, 10 years ago Ford put the Duratec in the contour which got 30 mpg highway offered the same power rating, and was extremely smooth.

when I saw "2.5L I4 motor" I was like "woah, Mazda must have done something really cool with it" I expected to see 170-180 horses and 35mpg.

Guess I was wrong :( otherwise I love this car, I have always been a fan of the mazda 3, I drove one that was a rental car with the 2.0L motor and an ATX, it was a lot more powerful then I expected, the trans it was mated to was brilliant for finding the right times to shift, and it rode way better then really any car in its class that I have driven within the same price bracket, I am hoping for much of the same from the new 3.

So you'd expect an engine that is the same displacement, making the same power to miraculously get 5mpg more?

Lay off the drugs.

Did Ford ever actually claim 30mpg? The Mazda 2.3/2.5 has never been a super efficient engine but people like the grunt compared to their more efficient 2.0.

I get 30mpg on my Speed3.
