Not sure if this is a Stutter or Not

I know there is a similar thread for this below, however I want to ensure my terminology is correct.

When driving my car when at a low RPM (2000-3000) and a press on the gass the car lacks power/bogs out, and makes a deep exhaust sound, it actually sounds like the exhaust is plugged. If accellerate less aggresively, when I am over 3000 RPM and I floor it, the car takes off with great acceleration. It is only in the LOW RPM range that the car hessitates. It really seems like the car is cut off from fuel supply until I get to higher RPM's when she takes off.

I replaced the plugs and wires (stock wires, stock plugs) a few months ago and the car was running great. I had a similar problem about a 3 years ago, the car got so bad that if I pressed on the gas the car would bog down and eventually die. I had the fuel pump replaced back then and everything worked fine.

I recently replaced the fuel filter, with no positive effect.

I have ordered the FOcus pump from Bill Jenkins (YA Billy!) and will complete the install.

I think you guys may suggest I check the plug gaps, Could the length of the wires to the plugs make a difference? If I screwed up the lengths and (distributor to plugs are correct) had longer wires where the shorter wires should go- can that mess up the performance.

Help Help Help!

welli had the same problem, my car all of a sudden started to stutter at the same rpm you are describing, so i ordered new wires and plugs, it fixed it for a while like 2,000 miles and then it came back, i had no clue what to do, fuel pump was fine all of that, so right about then my differential went out on the car so i took it to ford casue my parents were paying for it and they hooked up the scanner and found out that the number one spark plug was arcing, so i replaced the plugs again and put on stock wires, has been good for 6,000 miles now

Check the spark plug wiring order.

Duratec V6 Spark Plug wiring order. Note the 4-6-5 for the coil pack near the firewall side.

Firewall side
4- 6 -5 <--coil pack
3-2-1

1-2-3 <--engine
4-5-6
Radiator side

Spark Plug gap 0.054 inch

Problem solved!!!

Problem solved!!!

I pulled the IMRC cover after I noticed that the #6 plug boot seemed loose. I pulled the boot off, it was infact loose, when I inspected the plug it was caked in white dry crusty powder. I scraped the inside and tried to reinstall the boot and give it a run, I actually had to go to work.

It was actually worse, but it was clear to me that the problem was infact electrical. I would have bet anyone that it was fuel delivery - thank God for Contour.org!!!!!

I replaced the single plug, and bought new wires- she runs beautifully!

Let's see if tomorrow is the same,

Peter
