I know its a little late but I didn't see one so I figured put one up.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Mine wasn't so well. I was ill. I was sleeping new years eve and woke up to everyone hollering happy new year at midnight. Since about the 28th I had a sore throat that slowly was worsening day by day but wasn't all to unbearable. I just figured it was a prelude to a cold or something. Saturday morning I woke up in agony, went to a walk-in clinic since that is all that was open and found out I have strep. I got some antibiotics and here I am 4 days later and still feeling worse than I did on saturday. The fever is gone but the pain is moving farther down my throat and i'm starting to feel like its moving into both ears. So I have reason to believe that either the strain of strep I have is resistant to the antibiotics or they gave me sugar pills;P This afternoon I finally have an apointment to see my regular doctor so we can figure out whats going on.
 
what strain of strep?
and what did they give you for antibiotics?

i just recently got over Strep-C, which is rare in humans and can be deadly.
and now they are telling me that it is the cause of my recntly developed prostate inflamation.

I used to get strep every year until about 9 th grade. In 8th grade I had it so bad that I missed 5 days of school, not consecutive but within 2 weeks. I went through 2 different types of antibiotics. I think one of them was called Augmentin, but I think that was the stronger one. I know how you feel. Hope you get better soon.

When I went to the clinic the doctor saw me for a very short time and did not "take a sample" for analysis or what ever they do. He just used the flashlight thing and a tounge depressor and said yep thats strep here's a 'script for some antibiotics. Apparently what he prescribed is the most widely used for treating oral infections and is also a rather heavy dose. its 400 mg 4x daily of erythromycin, a generic substitution for E.E.S. FILMTAB which is what I was prescribed.

I've been doing salt water gargles every few hours but lately it makes it hurt so much more immediately after. Since it hasn't been getting better with the antibiotics I started wondering about trying to gargle with something else that works to kill bacteria like maybe some 151 or listerine. I told my dad about that and he said, don't you dare! becasue he did it once with listerine when he had strep and he said it burned so bad he almost passed out. So I'll just stick with the warm salt water.

Elky' its intersting you say that and it makes me wonder if I have it. I'm not sure if I have any prostate inflamation but if I did I'm sure I'd know it because it doesn't sound like its comfortable. Another thing that I've noticed recently is that I sometimes have a feeling in my chest like what you get if you drink way too much coffee way too fast like my heart is racing but its not and all I do is sit around or sleep. I did a google search on the name of the antibiotics and similar symptoms are listed as side effects of the medication. Reguardless its one of the things I'll be speaking to my doctor about. I had strep once before and after 3 days on the antibiotics I felt fine nevermind feeling the same or worse after 4 days.
 
I used to gargle with listerine and it helped with the pain. It might burn but afterwards it gives some relief. I guess it depends on who you are and how much you can take.

This may sounds messed up, and I hope you like pickles, but another thing that works is vinegar. Because it is acidic it helps, when I have a sore throat i usually down a few pickles, it really helps(let the laughing begin, come on). Expecially kosher dill pickles.

Humm, I 'll have to give it a try. there are some pickles in the fridge.

let me clarify a little jay, i HAD strep C and was put on the same antibiotics you are on.
it cleared after about 8-9 days.
it was about a week before i started noticing the lower abdominal discomfort.
i let it go for a couple weeks and it got worse and thats when i went to the dr.
they are still waiting on the lab results, but the symptoms led them to believe it is an infection in my prostate. they linked it to the strep-c since it was the most recent infection in my body and since strep c loves to attack other organs in humans.

so i didnt mean that the inflamed prostate is a symptom of strep-c.

i just had an extremely sore throat and i did have chest pain from all the coughing.
 
Elky, I would have blamed the discomfort on the large volume of the Elky super-swimmers looking for a way out.
 
I understood that your prostate problem wasn't a side effect.

ha ha ha, openings in my body in any place other than my head are for exit only.

I saw my doctor. He's taking me off the original antibiotic and putting me on amoxicillin and the pills are huge! the pills are like the size of a small mouse. Well not exaclty but they are a 1000mg tablet.

He also took a throat swab to do a culture test and a blood sample to check for mono. Tommorow he referred me to a ear nose and throat doctor becasue I have an abscessed tonsil which may be casused by the strep infection but should clear up with anitbiotics which it hasn't...yet.
 
bah..thats right it was amoxicillin that i was on!
i have been on so many things lately i cant keep them all straight.

Actual New Years weekend was wicked fun. Got a lot of bad news about my car yesterday which put a damper on things. But thankfully no health illness here.
 
Yah, thats right, amoxicillin first, then a stronger one which was augmentin for me. At a certain point the amoxicillin stopped working and I needed something stronger.

It's a rustbucket, heh. Lower radiator support rusted out, which has engine mounts on it too. sample pics (it's common on 4th gen, less common on 5th gen Maximas)

I was quoted $1500-2000 over the phone for bodywork/welding and another $1000-1500 for suspension work. Also need new tires and brakes soon. Puts me well past $4K in repairs over the course of one year. The car is still worth it IMO. I'm going to take a look at the undercarriage personally this weekend and see just how much rust is down there. If not a lot I'll likely repair since I do like the car, *but* if there are other problem areas then it might be time to upgrade. It's still worth decent as tradein especially with the rare options it has (winter package, etc) but any more mileage I put (85K now) and the value plummets.
