a question.....
Is there a special way to remove the CHROME Reflector on the trunk? I was thinking of getting it done in black.. becuase i dont want to snap anything and then end up spending money for replacement parts.
thanks guys..

the special way is to snap it off. It's plastic welded onto the reflector at several points. use a flat head or something and pry at one end and work your way through the length of the unit. Then gorilla glue it back into place.

bad idea, its impossible to get it back on and get it to sit right again after you snap off the chrome piece.

If you want to paint the chrome strip, remove the whole reflector, buy a newspaper and some masking tape and carefully mask off the areas you dont want painted. Then you dont have to worry about accidently over-spraying any other part of the reflector, and you dont have to worry about screwing up reflector.

Make sure to sand with 600 then 1000 grit to get a good smooth surface for the paint to stick on. After sanding be sure to thoroughly clean with soap water.

I snapped mine off just like hotdimmes said. When I reapplied I just clamped the strip down for a couple of hours. Sanding cant be stressed enough. Good luck.

oh really because that's exactly what I did to get mine painted and it came out fine. Some C clamps go a long way in helping setting it back on the reflector.

I also wouldn't worry about "lack of parts" These things are a dime a dozen in junk yards.

If the chrome strip is removed from that same reflector, the broken plastic will line up with itself again. I'd be more concerned if the chrome strip came from another reflector since it'll break at different points everytime.

Remove, sand, paint, glue. Masking it away will never give you the same results. I have one on my car done by someone on CEG before I bought it, and it's crap. I can see where it was taped away, and the paint is flaking away at the edges because the paint doesn't extend over the edges enough.

agreed. i did mine the same way. you just have to be careful and take your time. haha i used gorilla glue too! just make sure you get both tips and the center glued right because if not, it will come apart. i waited a few hours til the paint and clear coat was completely dry, then used small clamps to secure it back on to the rear deflector. i need to redo mine already.:shrug:i'll admit, i'm going to need to do a better job as well. all in all its very simple to do.
