I've been working on a fiberglass subwoofer enclosure for some time, based on a design I once saw done by Chris Carr (carraudio). I followed his blueprint and made some of my own changes.Here are some taken in the last several days, up to today when it was installed and completed. Sorry in advance for the poor quality cell phone pics.

prepare for the haters........... I like the box. looks like you did a nice job on it.
 
About six layers of glass, around 3/8" thick, so it's solid. Sounds fantastic, although I would like to pick up some new subs- those are Infinity Reference 1230's. They pound pretty good, and sound exceptionally clean, but they're single voice coil. I'm interested to see how it would sound with a decent set of DVC's at 1 ohm.

can your amp handle 1 ohm though? and is your box 1 or 2 chambers?
 
The amp is an oldschool Lanzar Vibe 1200D. It's 1ohm stable and I've used it to power 4 Audiobahn 10's at 1 ohm with good results. The box is one chamber.
 
The pictures don't do the box a justice. The color is actually gunmetal gray metallic, and the metallic looks great in person.
 
i totally forgot to give you the props you deserve for prepping that to paint! I know how much work that is lol thats why my last fiberglassed install was covered and not painted:crazy:

vinyl still takes tons of prep though.. not as much as paint but still. i swear everytime i plan on painting a fiberglass build.. i tell myself "never again!!" .. but i always fall victim to painting every time :laugh:

I only spread filler once in a thin layer, but I'm sure I have 25-30 hours in the different layers of primer, spot putty and sanding. The end justifies the means, and knowing how it came out, I'm glad it didn't end up carpeted.

lol i might paint one eventually but this box makes my hands hurt looking at it lol
 
I bet it would sound better if each sub had its own chamber. What part of OH are you in?
 
I live near Aurora. This box is an upgrade from chambered enclosures, and the sound is better than my previous setup, although they were a bit small for these subs. I know what you're saying-nothing beats chambers tailored to exactly the suggested airspace, but I'm willing to eat the potential loss for the look of this box.
 
Wow, the box does look really nice. That is a lot of hours to put into that. I couldn't do it. :cool:. So it sounds pretty good huh?
