It makes me sick that I’ve spent over 17K ON JUST PARTS! and could easily drop another 10K if I decided to keep her…but I’m done modding.
Vehicle Condition, being nit picky here:
Motor and Drivetrain:
- I meticulously maintain the car inside and out. OW-40 every 5K, NGK plugs every 25K, timing belt done at 71K, Stage III done 82K, all sensors above replaced between 82K and 84K.
- Motor throws only one code, the ubiquitous 16805 bank 1 and bank 2 catalyst code. However, I DO have a SMOG Cert. for her sale. No other code ever comes up.
- The car’s coolant temp is rock solid down the middle, never overheated ever. Coolant hoses replaced, auxiliary water pump replaced, plenum gasket replaced, after run hose replaced, and Coolant flushed, ALL at 93K.
- Oil temp hovers nicely at 220. I have the most recent copy of Blackstone Labs results as well. No fluid leaks in the car. Compression tested at 88K miles with no problems to report.
- Pressure tested the intake to 22 PSI every month and the car has Zero leaks.
- The H&Rs have treated me quite well over the last 50K miles. I would have originally purchased Stasis Tracksports if I knew any better with 600/650 springs rather than the much softer H&Rs. If the coilover ever fail, leak, etc, they have a lifetime warranty on them…just a reminder.
- Also, the EVOMS DV’s have a lifetime warranty as well. The ones on the car right now are new replacements at 83K miles. You should check them if you ever have any boost issues or jarring throttle lifts.
- The steering rack thumps on the driver’s side every so often over bumps…it comes and goes…a typical S4 issue. Tried replacing the TRE’s and that alleviated some of the thumping. Replaced the control arms and that didn’t cure it. Checked the driver’s side shock tower mount, it was bolted securely. Checked the three bolts holding the steering rack, they were also bolted securely. I simply live it now, as do a lot of other S4 owners.
- The mount for the driver’s side plastic intake up-pipe is cracked. However, It clears the fan blades just fine. A great time to replace it would be your next timing belt service.
Exterior:
- Exterior/paint/body is in EXCEPTIONAL condition. In fact, I’m proud to say that it looks pretty damn amazing.
- Mind you, the car is BRILLIANT BLACK and, as any reasonably intelligent person should know, a black paint finish is nearly impossible to keep from having any swirls. I am happy to say that the car has hardly any, and after a simple wax, has a mirror like finish. It has never seen any snow, and barely any rain (I live in California), and always garage kept. It is washed every 2 weeks and waxed every 2 months or so.
- The hood and front bumper has NO ROCK CHIPS! How many people can say THAT!
- All the glass, including the windshield (recently replaced) is in perfect condition.
- NOTE: The driver’s headlight has a smudge on the inside. I have NO idea how it got there and has been there since I’ve owned the car. I’ve tried to get at it to wipe it clean but you can’t oven bake or open these damn headlights to access the interior. You simply have to live with it….or buy E-Codes if it bothers you, and I don’t know why it would.
- Overall, the wheels look great. Fronts are near perfect. Rear passenger has 1 inch of curbrash. All tires are at 40 to 70% tread. Spare tire wheel has stock P6000 with 90% tread, but the wheel is slightly bent on the inner side.
Interior:
- Near perfect. Leather looks fantastic. No scratches or fading anywhere. Replaced the driver’s side door latch (it was floppy). Replaced the driver’s sunvisor (the mirror light assembly had died). Replaced both floor mats with S4 Monster Mats (the old ones looked tired).
- The tint on the driver’s side has a hole the size of a pea. It’s irritating given its at eye-level. “Live With It” has been my motto.
- The rear-view mirror is cloudy on the edges. It was to be my next fix before I decided to sell the car.
- The Nav knob is gone and disappeared. You’ll have to turn the little stalk that it sat on to use the Nav….mildly irritating at best. Scoured the house and garage trying to find it so I can glue it back on. Unfortunately it’s lost forever, and you can’t purchase just that knob. You would have to buy the entire center console button assembly…that seems crazy to me.
- All the buttons work, even all the pixels on the dash display works. Stereo is perfect, heater blows hot, AC blows super cold, vents work,…essentially everything else is perfect.
