ok I've got a 99 v6 cougar and i have the engine out and now today i was offered a 3L next is what shall i do.
1.Do i go full 3L then i need to reprogram ecu and figure out the return fuel setup. Is there a return fuel rail i can swap in?
2.Do i go with svt intakes, cams and computer
3.i have no clue
I'm trying to do this the easiest most cost effective way can i run 3L cams with a svt intake and computer?

well i think i'm going to go with svt cams, injectors and computer then when i get more money finish it off.

i'd check on that before doing what you've stated. i'm honestly not sure if an svt pcm works for a cougar. But it seems to me and the others that posted earlier, that you don't seem sure of this project you're about to take on. do a bit more research.

The svt ecu works fine in the cougar you just need to reprogram the key. I've done much research on the 3lsvt setup because ive already done 1 last year this time

This isn't entirely true. It depends on the year SVT ECU. Contact Aircougar over on NECO and he can tell you all the issues he ran into. I'd stick with your current ECU and get it tuned by a dyno shop. You will need a tune anyway so getting the SVT ECU doesn't gain you much.

I can answer those questions also as I help aircougar out with it.

you can not use the E0 SVT PCM in a cougar because it has external PATS. for a return fuel system cougar should be able to use any 98.5 through mid 99 SVT PCM, SFGx codes. after that with the returnless you would need to use a late 99 or mainly a 2k SVT PCM, but I am not positive as aircougar and I haven't swapped one on a returnless cougar.

also its best to get one with the keys. this way you can program your own or swap the chip in the key so that you can start the car

issue ive run into is the different pcm wont kick on the fuel pump

Use the cams, computer, valve covers(think that's the updated ones), front timing cover, injectors(unless going turbo later and use the 3L), water pump, alt., crank pulley, etc... Can't think of what else.

Then again I got an SVT and don't know the cougar set up. So, i'll take whatever critisizm comes at me. I'm doing my 3L as we speak with kscontourkid and we are about to have the motor out. :)
