Need ATX for 96 Duratec V6. What years?

I am pulling the automatic transmission from my 96 Duratec V6 Contour and am wondering what model years I can use the ATX's out of (95-97 or all years or ...)? I am assuming all years, but want to make sure. I am going to search some wrecking yards and just throw a used one in and need to know what year Contours I can use. I have done some searching on the CEG and just can't find the info I need.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

well I know in the later atx trannies for the cougar they changed one of the sensors from mechanical to electrical. which I believe are the 2000-02 models. I'm pretty sure that anything before that is hot swappable.

I'm now engaged in installing a '96 ATX from a '96 Zetec into a '98 Zetec. Most of the bolt holes lined up and the torque converter studs fit through the flexplate. Made sure all
the wiring matched. Should have 'er ready for a test this week - will inform
this thread when job is done. Used trans of unknown function so not too confident in outcome. Side note: used a 6' 2x6 bolted to a single floor jack to raise the subframe into place; worked well.

I'm awaiting your results. I am about to get started on the same thing & was worried about interchangeability from the pre-98 zetec to the post 98.

As for the guy that started this thread I swapped a 00 ATX into my 98 duratec ATX a couple of years ago with no problems.

OB1,

Well, the swap mentioned above went well. At least 2 bolt
holes (engine to trans) didn't line up but all other bolts, the dowels, and starter did match. Took a chance on an unknown tranny and for once, lucked out. May you experience the same good fortune.
