My stereo build thread

I understand the whole "to each his own thing".. I really do.. Everyone has certain requirements or abilities in their life or at that point in their life that they need a vehicle to be able to fulfill..

but you simply can't lump any car in and compare it to any other car and say "this is better"... on what grounds?
center of gravity? nope..
gas mileage? doubt it.
crash test ratings? again, doubt it..
handling? nope
skid pad? nope
braking? maybe not

See where I'm going with this? For every negative you can find about a car, I can point out a positive when compared to something else. This platform has negatives compared to some vehicles and positives compared to others. Enjoy your new car for what it is but you are doing the same thing many others do.. you get a new vehicle (or.. new to you) and all of a sudden its "the bestest thing in the whole wide world and a contour is garbage"..

Let's be a little more even keeled, and rational, shall we? Besides, if this car you got is so great, what would be the logic in owners of those getting a new car? Those with the same mindset would say that their new car was the bestest thing in the world and blazers were junk..

You left reliability out of there Ray, and thats a big one. I still drive a '00 SVT and I must say it sucks.... I can think of hundreds of vehicles off the top of my head that I could buy on a budget right now that would be an "upgrade". I am reminded of this everyday especially now that its cold when I try to back out of my garage and my shift forks wont let me. And then again after I finally do get reverse and I am stuck in the middle of the road with cars waiting for me to eventually slam it into 1st.
My wife drives an '02 saturn and I wish we had 2 of them. It has 20k more miles than the SVT and the ONLY thing I have ever had to replace on it was a $40 muffler bracket. And she drives the piss out of that car while I try to baby mine and maintain the hell out of mine. I've spent thousands on this POS to keep it going and it still has many hundreds of $$ worth of things wrong with it.

sounds like your tranny needs a little trip to HMS for so slick shift forks

and is your womans saturn faster? I dont think they had redlines way back in 02

I didn't leave reliability out, man.. I wasn't naming ways in which the car was BETTER than a blazer.. I was merely mentioning that EVERY car has positives against SOMETHING ELSE.. and surely his blazer has positives against this platform if they bode well for his lifestyle, but to say that this platform is terrible and his car was "better" is a bogus statement. You can't lump an entire car together and compare across the board and say that one car is better at everything.

His blazer may be better at towing, reliability, traction, etc.. but it isn't simply "better". I wasn't pointing out that he was wrong in that a blazer was a better suit for him.. I was pointing out that he was wrong in that a blazer (in general) is not a "better" car than these. if it were a true statement then it would apply to ALL owners, and not just him. just an argument of logic at this point.

As for YOUR reliability, I'm sorry to hear that, but again that doesn't make it a true statement about a platform.

you din't know? blazers are wicked fast on the track yo

lil homie prolly straight ballin on dubs
your a dumbass. plain and simple.

I never said my blazer was quick or handled good. I bought it because I like to offroad, try taking your contour thru 2 feet of snow over mud. Is it gonna happen? no! If I wanted to go fast I would have bought something different. Not everyones first priority is to go fast.

If you would have seen my contour after 12 years of new york winters you would see why I said my blazer was an upgrade. The car was junk, It did it deed, it had 240k miles on it and it was on its way out (the motor and trans weren't, the rest of the car was falling apart).

Gotta remember, I'm not the one spending time/money putting a stereo in a car that doesn't even have a motor.

oh it has a motor, what it doesn't have is a clutch, because for some reason this reed fellow at team ford doesn't answer e-mails after an order is paid for.

so when the ford part gods in nevada decide to remember I paid them for a clutch disk, and do something about informing me of it's whereabouts, I'll be much obliged to install the 3.0.

you basically called me an idiot for putting a stereo in a car with "no motor"

it's not a car with no motor, it's a car with the motor removed.

you sir are nothing but a troll

So I suppose half the people in this board are trolls because they don't drive a contour?

the only reason I came in this thread is to point out how unsafe, and rediculous your setup is. you call yourself a veteren to car audio and you showed no signs of even being remotely smart when it comes to proper wire guage and charging systems. Powering your car by a lawn mower charger while your motor is out just to annoy your neighbors with your lame stereo is not cool, im sure nobody on this forum will possibly ever take you seriously when you mention anything about audio now, not to mention you probably screwed your fuse panel up from hooking the stuff up in the first place, Whatever.. have fun with that. I hope you win big car audio competetions with your beast of a street beater.

I'll just roll out with my track beast blazer on dubs with my hat tilted sideways and my sema car stereo on.

you do that good buddy

your a troll because you find a person to aggravate and post nothing but hateful garbage

you might want to see a therapist about that or something

The 98.5 SVT I bought on Monday had some total POS Sony CD head. Just threw in an Alpine CD/MP3, Rockford amp and one of my Power 12s. The headunit wiring was so hacked and hand twisted together...

I must thank a previous owner for running 4-gauge power and an RCA wire from the headunit! That saved a bit of time...hopefully not another hack job.

The four door speakers were rewired; unmatched wire to each speaker. Must have been whatever was sitting around at the time. The right front is not working. Hopefully just a smoked speaker.

The sad thing - this thing still has the POS stock door speakers. It looks like they were running some decent power to the subs though. So much for nice balance. I love the MB Quarts in my '95 Escort GT. Might have to get a set for the Contour.

Living in Detroit, whiskey works great to stay warm while working outside on the dark weeknights. If only I had some when I was 17 and dropping the $5k worth of goods into my Escort GT in February 1995 with temps the single digits.

I wish I had anything to keep me warm when i was working on fixing temp sending wires that broke for my DSM when it was -35F outside. It was only 5 this morning when I went to work :( I am tired of "winter" already.
