I got my car back from WYOTECH after getting my spec stage one clutch and alternator put in. I got it back and test drove it. All the power went out after 5 minutes of driving and stalled out. (I mean power went clean out, no power even in the dash clock). Luckily i had my jump box, and it started. 1 minute later same thing happened. I drove it back to school and i told them what happened, they said it was just the batt terminals that were loose. Okay.... So i drove home about 2 miles away. everything seemed okay. about two hours later i start my car and the same damn thing happend. All power went out. I popped the hood touched the batterry and it felt hot.??? All the sudden smoke starts pouring out from the firewall. I look back there and theirs a fire!! I quickly put it out. It seems that the clothlike material around the EGR tube around the middle of the head, is what caught on fire. Does anyone have an idea what could have caused this?

Probably the exact problem I had, Check to ensure that the wire running down to your alternator is not rubbing on the EGR tube, Mine rubbed on that and actually melted the casing of the wire and welded itself to the EGR tube. Is your battery light on? The wire could be shorting out on the EGR tube and when it does you lose all your power and it will send some good sparks. You might want to disconnect the battery first so you don't accidently short it out while trying to find the problem.

Same thing happened here right after having the wiring harness replaced.
Took it back to the dealership where it was done and they admitted (surprisingly) that the tech had run wires incorrectly and that they were sitting against the EGR tube.
Gotta say, opening the hood and seeing a little fire burning away down in there scared the piss out of me.

Hope you got that wiring harness replaced in time for it to be free

I waited until 99,900mi. because I KNEW that they were going to screw something up in the process...which they did ROYALLY! But that's a whole other thread.
I'm still living with the last remnants of that butchery...an ongoing stuttering problem.

I had both cars done years ago - lots of heat and humidity here that destroyed the wires. Had to take both cars back 3-4 times to have things corrected. They blew my ABS system up twice! Wife's car had parts missing from the shifter and ground effects. Some lights didn't work, fasteners missing all over the front end.
