My 3rd tour yet another 1k car

Removed a lot of the after market sound system wiring, what a mess. There was enough wires to cover 2 systems. So many screw holes in the trunk that there must have been a few set ups in the past. The factory wireing harness looks so hacked up from that, so I don't think this car will ever have a sound system as long as I own it. A few components surprised the hell out of me, like the alarm system, and the cd changer controller. I was going to try to take the alarm out, but it would be like diffusing a bomb so I left it alone. And the cd changer was shoved so far up into the dash that no one would find it, unless you were following its chord.

5+ lbs of wires and crap

ugh what a mess. Looks like everything is coming along nicely. I wish a deal like that would pop up around here. keep posting updates as i'm following your interior cleaning!

You should continue gutting it and make it a track car!

There will be gutting but to a limited extent. All sound components (broken antenne is next), everything in the trunk, sound deadening, broken window regulators.

Heres a pic for you man,

Theres a line in the seat that shows up in the pic but doesn't really look that terrible in person oh well. And a phantom light spot that doesn't exist at all.

Laundry soap and water, scrub with a fine bristle brush. Then hit the hard to get to areas with a tooth brush. Wipe clean with a sponge with soap less water. Finally use saddle soap and massage in, don't use to much or you'll get it in the perforation and will have to use a needle to scoop it out. Car will smell really leathery afterward.

Still working on this thing, finished up the interior, just have the carpet left but I'm saving that until the car is 3L powered. Here is the interior so far.

The connector near the shifter is for an ATX. It should be unplugged like you found it.

The wire that almost stabbed you appears to the radio antenna wire with a broken end, but I'm not sure. I know the antenna wire runs right to that area under the trim in that first picture of the wire. I joins together with another section of wire that runs all the way to the trunk. Maybe it broke somewhere in between.

Little slow on this project, school, money keeping me back. But anyhow more about the car.

I got it stated mid October, had it pull started (by a little Elantra). Engine sounded like a train on train tracks. So it seems to have a spun bearing like I thought all along.

While it was out I swapped rims/tires with the SF. My tires are getting worn and the red car has new tires. They're all mismatched and way to small at 205/40/17. But it gets the job done till I get this project finished.

Replaced the broken e-brake not too long ago, that thing was really worn out. I had lifted as high as it would go on the lever to see if it would catch. It did for a little then came down hard on my thumb. Felt like I got hit by a baseball bat. Replacing it was easy, props to Wired motorsports on shipping my new hand brake quickly.

Today I gave it a quick wax, nothing fancy just some turtle wax hard shell paste. Just to protect it from the cover.

I've decided to go with a 3L with 3L cams on this project. Thanks to those who replied on my questions on which they personally enjoyed more. So I'll have some SVT cams and new timing gear for sale soon.

Lastly I'm debating whether to get a new low mile transmition 3k miles to replace the one in the car or to have this one rebuilt. The new trans is $500, but I have no idea how much it would cost to rebuild the one currently in the car. Thoughts? I don't want to pay to much on the trans just enough to make it reliable.

Front fender has been repainted, poorly, the orange peel is terrible.

God I miss my old rims/tires!

I had painted my SF oval ring, and it had begun to pit and look like crap. So I just swapped them. The ring is now in the trunk, I might paint it red, or I might get another front mesh. I haven't given it much thought.
