MTX75 Shifting Issues Fixed

So I Had a few Issues Where I Lost the ability to Use 1st,3rd,5th With Out a Grind Or Staying in Gear.... CHecked Mounts and all Brand New from Previous Owner.........Was suggeted to Me that Syncros Were Gone......Normally would Be the Case But From One day to next Never had a Grind In these gears


Inquired about Shifter Linkages after Being Suggeted So I Look Couldnt figure out How to see the tranny side. The Previous Owner left a Used Linkage In the Car with Purchase and I went from there....All bushings seemed fine So I asked a friend to Hop in the Car and Moved shiftert around and Lo and Behold I found the Answer to My Shifting Woes.......

Yeah, I can see that I am looking down at the top of the shift tower in the pic and what looks to be that the ends of the shift cables are not attached to the pins on the tower levers...... :shrug: - I dunno. :blackeye:


Is your brake booster GREEN?
 
Brake booster is green along with samco hose kit and valve covers(previous owner although has grown on me) right under link ends where cables go there was an 8mm socket lodged in and wouldnt allow to tra el full length so shiftef stayed right atsynchro causing grind in 1,3,5
 
Ahhh I see, yeah that definitely sounds like it might degrade shift quality slightly haha, still can't tell from the pic.
 
Hmmm maybe the shift link is the reason my gear grinds too.....one of my shift links has no bushing in it where the rectangle end area that connects to the tranny, i can literally touch it and it comes off the tranny lol.....
and feels like to much play in my shifts not firm at all
 
Yes that is the reason ilovesvt, my bushing was also missing exactly like yours and the end pretty much just jerks the tower into gear. Unfortunately the bushing I picked up from the junkyard was for the later style and way too large in diameter to work in my cable end. The way I fixed that was to cut off the rubber on the new piece and only reuse the middle plastic part that actually clips onto the tower, then I wrapped it in layers of duct tape until it fit the hole in the cable end, clicked it in place and voila, I have a firm shift feel and positive engagement again.


The method I used, however, is only temporary and only because I did not have the proper piece so I used what I had, get a replacement from the stealership (I think they only sell the entire end but it's worth it to me) or hit up a junkyard. Good luck!
 
Cool cool ,ill probably hit up a junk yard, and find the best one i can and just redo it with 3m window weld,its very hot out here and i dont have a/c so now is the time ill be working on my svt on her down time and get it ready for fun autumn/winter weather driving and get my shifting firmer......

any update on this? I believe while driving the car like this I wore out my ends so Im looking now
