just a quick question I did reaserch on upgrade for MTX with torsn limited slip dif.

let say I leave a stock tranny and upgrade to 3l how risky is it. I do not do hard lunches but sometimes I do drive hard.

what are your thoughts

thank you

As long as you're nice on the launches you should be ok. What kills stock differentials is wheel hop and with 3L just too much torque at once. If you keep the wheel hop to a minimum and don't dump the clutch all the time you could technically never break your tranny. It all depends on how you treat it.

cool
as I said I do not do hard lunches I never spin tires maybe sometimes I lunch it around 3000 rpms but thats about 3 times in the life of this tranny.

the reason why I ask is I have been planning to do this for 1 year and now the tranny on batinc got more expensive even so with the torsen it would be way over 2k $, sending the tranny to Haines it's( it think ) 500$ plus all the FUN of shipping it. I just want more power as I am driving and I think the 3l is more reliable.
what do you think I want to upgrade to 3l and change the clutch I should do it under 1500$. with the tranny change it would be around 4000$ i dont think it make sense for me to invest so much into 7years old car. Dont get me wrong I love this car but financialy it doesn't sould right.

What do you think

As long as you do it right you should be fine. BTW my tranny has a Torsen that was professionally installed and Terry replaced a bunch of stuff on my gear shafts and it cost me only around $1600. It's not as expensive as you may think but as long as you drive smart you should be ok.

Wow -thats spendy. I dropped off a freshly blown tranny at my shot I do tranny work at and they pulled it apart - replaced 3rd gear syrnchro, upgraded shift forks, installed torsen, new axle seals, new bearings, and sealed it up for 250 bucks. We provided all the parts - but the shop did the rest. Its almost a gaurntee that your going to eventually blow the diff - how fast depends mostly on your driving type and what year the car is. 2000 is the worst year for stock differentials.

1999 IS THE YEAR
where did you do the work I am in NY there is too many shady shops in here but I will ask around
