i am thinking about getting msds headers for my car . i was wondering if anyone has these and if there is a noticable difference in power? and how hard are they to install ? how much would it run me going to a shop to get them installed? Also does it hurt or help my gas mileage..
thanks everyone!!

i know people have them i was just wondering if there is a noticable difference and if they are easy to install.? sorry i miss worded .

installation will be tough/expensive i dunno if i ever wouldve bothered but i had a 3L swap done and you HAVE to get headers if the motors, thats a must because it takes like 20 mintues to install them when the motors out i bet.

if you can install them yourself do it, if not youll probably pay around $350+ for installation from a shop i bet.

yes they do make a difference, some more power and it makes the exhaust sounds louder and deep on a stock setup.

installation isn't to back, can be done in a day taking oyur time. search for the how-tos on header install.

i remember the first time i heard my car with headers and my new 3l sitting in gregs car port, it sound SOOOO deep compared to stock i loved it. and it never really sounded that loud from inside but i heard my car with stock everything except headers and it was plenty loud and sounded great.

i was wondering right now i removed my resonated AND cat. convertor i have all straight pipe back to my exhaust . will the msds headers sound good like that if installled ? and also has anyone else had these installed anywhere and how much do they cost?
thanks blake wolf

If your exhaust doesnt already sound bad without a resonator or cat it will when you go to a free flowing header.

it'll sound like garbage like that, unless your young and like rasp rasp...and even more rasp, and a healthy helping of drone:nonono:
yes they make a difference, moreso when combined w/the ypipe. if you call and mention the grassroots sale you can get them really cheap...don't bother asking how much, because i don't know for sure...but about half of what they're listed for on his sight. but you get no gaskets, bolts, mil eliminators or coating.

mine does not sound bad at all sounds really well... more power then the stock... how much labor is involved installing headers... what is the grassroot and what site?

If you don't like super loud or you have to drive early morning or late night in your neighborhood then it's not for you.

I have it. It does sound deep and throaty. But unless you are cruising on the highway, you will feel very loud compared with stock. Because its unbearable loudness I rarely drive spiritedly like I did before. So it counteracts the purpose to get the headers.

Headers on almost any car will be significantly louder. On ours, most people prefer to use a resonator and a muffler, although some will forego either one of the above. Most consider the increase in noise an assett, as it provides a deeper, stronger tone.

They make a noticable increase in power, especially in the midrange torque. In theory, they will increase MPG, if you can keep your foot off the loud pedal, that is.

Install is not hard, but it is long and will let you spend some quality time wtih your car. Read the how-to's several times before undertaking this install, or get in touch with some local CEG'rs who have done it. Some of us have done a few installs, and can be suckered into another.

The "grassroots sale" is like an on-going group buy that marty from MSDS (msdsinc.com) has extended to CEG and I believe NECO.

I also do not recall what the prices are. A search for grassroots in the Group Buy section should yield some results.

The install is not a difficult procedure but it is very space-limited and can be a pain. My first one took a little under 8 hours. I also did not have any bolts break or stuff like that.

And, in my opinion, do not reuse the bolt/stud combo to install the headers. I like to replace that two-part setup with properly sized allen bolts. I can get the specific size for you if necessary, I don't remember off hand.

I think it is easy enough to do yourself or as mentioned before, find some local CEG'r that may be willing to help. Oh, and depending on the emissions laws where you live, it might be hard to find a shop that will install them.

TRicker and I yanked the engine to install mine - was pretty smooth. I bought all new nuts and studs for the headers - didn't use a single one. Grant it - I've got an 03-05 3L and everything came apart very easily.

My car has MSDS Ceramics and a Weapon R y-pipe through stock everything. Car got a very very sexy growl and no drone or rasp - love it. Oh - and it also got power, noticable. Freeing up the exhaust more will net me more HP as well.

Best way to install headers...

i live in mc allen texas wondering if anyone is close to me and be willing to help install headers and a y-pipe?
thanks so much for everyones support!

Installing the headers and y-pipe with those new goodies flywheel etc will def help that 3L move :)

Good luck installing it, i hope it goes in smoothly.

I read somewhere we have tubular headers stock.

Would it be more cost effective to just get rid of the cats? I don' know how many we have but seems like we may have 2 or 3.

My clutch is slipping and I think im just going to pull the engine when it comes time and do some maintenance, possibly 3.0 swap.
