MSD Dash Hawk

It says it plugs right into your OBD II port, in which case it'd be idiot proof to connect. That does look like a very cool gadget, espicially if i don't have to run all the sensors, i can just plug it in, and be done. But i'll bet those are pretty crazy money.

Well the xcal2 will work on any obd2 Ford for acquiring data. It can tune only one car at a time. So it can do everything that product can (though only on Fords) AND allow for custom tunes.
And I don't have any experience with that msd product, but I can say the xcal2 is very good for diagnostics, better than other programs I've used/seen.

What i was asking is, Now that the new vehicles computers are CAN compliant. CAN i think is computer aided networking?

This is what i saw on the web page for MSD.

My vehicle is not on the supported list. Is it CAN compliant?

If you vehicle is not listed in the supported vehicles page, all is not lost! There are many vehicles being added/tested every day and it is hard to capture them all and keep them up to date, so a good way to see if your car has a CAN bus is the following:

Locate the OBDII connector. It is under the dash on the driver’s side of the vehicle, often either under the steering wheel or tucked up next to the driver’s side kick panel.
Look carefully at the plug with a flash light or other bright light source. If pins 6 and 14 have metal pins in them (i.e. are “populated”) then the vehicle has a CAN bus and DashHawk will most likely work with this vehicle.

I know im begin lazy by not looking myself. But my car is in storage and is a bit out of my way i thought that maby i could get someone with a 2000 Contour SVT to look in there car.

Nope won't work.

Nope won't work.

No the Contour is not supported. It is not CAN (controller area network) compliant. CAN is used in new vehicles (late 2003 and up) it is how the multiple modules in the vehicle communicate.

So if the MSD thing is only compatible with CAN vehicles it won't work on the Contour.

I would consider that a bummer.

Also i know that there were some vehicles that were equiped with CAN even before it was manditory to put it on the vehicles. Have you checked to see if the pins are there?

I know i made the mistake of buying a greddy informeteor. It does the same thing that the dash hawk does but only with imports!!! The sales man did not tell me it would not work for my car so i have a $300.00 informeteor on my desk and i have no use for it. I even told him what i drove!

And they won't return it?

And they won't return it?

They would not pay for shipping back to the company. Then on top of that i had to pay a 20 Percent re-stocking fee!

I only would of gotten 270 back so i thought i would try to sell it myself! i have not gotten to it yet! lol
