I'm starting to rip the motor apart on the stang. I was at one time looking at a whole motor change but that will be in the future, my motor is solid right now and the compression test was spot on. i was doing research on mustang forums plus getting responces to postings on gains with stock parts such has the lower end and cam and was shocked to find the possible gains, while not huge, but nice streetable gains w/o any power adders for little money. I got info about a guy well known in the 5.0 forums by the name of tom moss who does awsome porting and I have sent out my intake and soon my heads.
I hooked up with a guy who has a very nice set up on the boards and started to talk with about a set up for me and what others where using when I decided to try his set up. he e-mailed me his dyno graphs and motor info and we talked on the phone the other day about my plans, great guy. I plan to run this set up until I'm ready for a new motor which will be way down the line. pretyy much it looks like this:
Intake;
stock Tom Moss ported lower(sent out)
Stock upper Tomm Moss port matched to lower & port matched to 65mm egr spacer + polished(sent out)
Ford racing 65mm Throttle Body and EGR spacer(on order from Jegs)
1995 Ford Cobra MAF(already have from ebay)
MAC fender mount CAI(already have bought from MAC)
Heads:
Ported Tom Moss E7's port matched on both intake and exhaust + polished then rebuilt with valve job and performance springs,
1.84intake/1.54exhaust and 1.7 rockers(tmoss and pauls machine shop)
misc.
Ford racing roller timing chain set with steel gears, just to tighten her up(already ordered from jegs)
stewart stage 1 water pump(need to get)
Aeromotive adjustable fule pressure reg.(need to get from jegs)
March underdrive pullies(need to get from March)
Ford racing ceramic headers (Jegs)(my bbks are rusting and are crap)
custom h-pipe with high flow cats.(jeffs custom exhaust works)
arp fasteners
I'm going to run 16degrees of timing and adjust the fuel pressure has needed with his help but most likely get it tuned. this set up flows well over 200cfms and nets a big gain between 0-4,500rpms and better gain to 6,000rpms over stock.
he dynoed 280hp/319 tourqe at the wheels on 18degrees and 40psi I'm not looking for this at all nor am I going to run that much timing or fuel pressure. I'm going for atleast 260-265hp at the wheels and tourqe in these motors is easy to get, with my 3:73's in the rear this combo should be spot on the rpm range. these cars are light and I'm sure it will move nice. I'm doing all the labor and the cost is really cheap since I'm using my heads and intake. not a bad project so far and it's moving along but it will along time before it's on it's way and hopefully maybe next fall/winter it can get to the body shop for it's strip down rebuild but it also could be the year after that, oh well no rush. I'll take pics soon and use this thread has my update post.
