Looking for a new wire harness

Saw that the wires on my car look like squirrels have been on them. Looked up on the ford recall bulletin and saw that my car was due for the wire harness exchange, but the previous owner didn't bother to take it to be done. So now I'm looking to replace the harness with a new one or a newer model. So the questions are
1, Is the 96 mystique harness compatible with any other model (contour)?
2, If so what year can I go up to?
3, How long would it take to swap out? Other info is that it's a 2.0 Zetec. Any help would be appreciated.............thanks. Hopefully this will solve a lot of my problems.:blackeye:

First of, i'm sooooo sorry that this is happening to you, it happened to me.

1. The wiring harness change for what accessories you have like, AC, cruise, traction control so if you find a car that is JUST like yours (i think it could be a contour also) including accessories and stuff that has had the recall done jump on it. If somebody on this forum tries to sell you one be VERY careful as i almost got ripped off on here.

2. I would image 96-00 but i really have NO idea

3. My mechanic had my car for 3 months

1. as was said, it needs to be the exact same setup as yours. although you should be able to get one with options that your car didnt have and it still work fine, you just wont plug in the connectors for those options (such as fog lights, AC, or cruise control). the biggest thing is to make sure its the same engine and transmission from a Contour or Mystique, and I think ABS was important as well.

2. 96-97 are the only ones that will work. 95s are OBD1 and have different sensor connectors. 98+ got VCT and thus a different harness.

3. if you have the new harness ready to go, and you know what you are doing there is no reason you couldnt have the engine harness(es) swapped in a day or 2, but plan on longer just to be safe.

I did my 95 with a kit from Bill @ Team Ford. That was several years ago and I do not know if he is still there. The kits are spicific to the VIN. The Zetec is easier to install than the V6. The instruction sheet included is massive. At the time the kit cost me $400.00. SIDENOTE: What a differance in the performance with the new Negative Cable. Now I must find one for my 97.

Did the same thing as WestCoastAjax. But I don't remember paying that much, it was $140 for me. It took a weekend to complete, nearly an entire day with just the fusebox harness.
