Has anyone gone through the process of reciving a letter of conformity from Ford to import a contour into the states? I called the CBP (customs border patrol) and they said I need to get a letter of conformity from ford and I dont know where to go I couldetn find anything on their website:shrug: , any ideas? Thanks a lot

Do you mean to import a Mondeo?

You can hire an auto importing company to handle all the details for you.
Of course this will be more expensive but easier.

No It's just a csvt, but I talked to a cbp officer and he said I need the letter of conformity to get cleared through cbp.

Call Ford

Customs may not need it if the car has the sticker in the door jamb that says it "meets all appliciable federal safety and emissions standards for the XXXX model year."

Not sure if Canadian cars have that, but yeah.

Shouldn't have to convert anything... speedometer still has MPH on it, but they might complain about the odometer registering in Km.

Yea everything's up to par with the us standards, I believe it originialy came from the US (odomiter reads in miles) but I still need the letter of conformity from ford doesent make too much sence to me but I guess thats why I dont make the rules.

is this a purchase?
where was the car originally manufactured.
If you have purchased this car, and it was built in the u.s., and conforms to the MDOT, then you should be able to bring the car into the states as "u.s. goods being returned"
If this is a purchase, you may have to provide customs with a proforma invoice showing:
shipper (seller)
consignee (you)
country of origin
purchase price
VIN number.
You should contact MDOT to find out what they require. I think there may be a EPA form required as well. (s/b easy)
The car MUST has MPH over the KPH
The vin # should provide customs/DOT with the conformity as long as the car has not been modified....though they may want to examine it.
Canadian built cars VIN# ususally start with the # 2.

Worse case scenerio, you may have to search FOrd's website for an official "letter of confirmity" which I think may be kinda hard to do.

This info should get you started.
If you have further questions, let me know as I work for a global logistics company.
