Leaking AC Line

So my AC stopped working last september. Didn't really care but now its starting to get a bit warm. So I took it to a shop this afternoon and here was his diagnosis.

The line that connects the compressor to the evaporator was rubbing against the radiator support and has a hole in it. All the freon has leaked out. So he refilled the freon and the AC worked fine, except he obviously sucked the freon out again because of the leaking line. So this means, fix or replace the line and charge the sytem and I have a functioning AC. He wanted to charge me 168 for the line, plus 3.5 hrs labor to put it in, plus 40 bucks a can for the freon (times 2), plus 20 extra dollars as wiggle room for seals/gaskets/extra hardware. Total came up just shy of $520.

Does this sound reasonable? It seems a little high to me. Does anyone have the part number of the line so I can order it through Team Ford in LV? I said no thank you and I'm picking up the car around 4 today. I'll have him show me which line is leaking and where since he's charging a diagnosis fee. Might as well get my money's worth.

Has anyone replaced this line before? Can it be repaired?

Thanks again everyone!

Oops, I guess by evaporator, I meant accumulator...sorry! The leaking line connects the compressor to the accumulator.

sounds about right ... when i took my car to the dealer to get the A/C working it was about $600 as the accumulator had rusted out. About $100 in R-134a, $200 something for the part, etc ...

Yikes! That's a lot. So the only problem appears to be the leaking line. Armed with the service manual that I ordered from Todras (once it comes in) would this be something I could accomplish? I'm no mechanic but I can follow directions and have patience.

if you purchase the proper tools that you will need you could do it yourself ...

I don't mean the recharging and refilling of refridgerants. I want nothing to do with that mess. I'm talking about replacing the line, then bringing it to a certified shop to charge the system. What kind of special tools would be needed for that?

shouldn't need anythign special, make sure you use A/C o-rings but you may have trouble getting a shop to fill the system that you repaired and they didn't

So the leak is circled in red, and a close up (of poor quality). Is this single piece replaceable or do I have to buy the entire mess like the shop said? Also, does anyone have a part number for it?

Thanks again!
