Hey gang,

I got home from work two days ago and tried to turn off my car and the key would not budge!.. i had to leave it in the "on" position and kill the car by holding break and letting out clutch in 1st gear.. overnight the battery died due to the key being in the on position.. the key will not turn back towards me! It will only turn to fire up the engine.. what do i do to get the dam thing out!?!?!?!

thanks fellas

sounds like the ignition cyclinder failed. I had this happen but it jambed up so I couldn't start the car. the cylinder is removable when the key is in the accesory possition, or one click forward from the off possition. you will need to replace it and the key.

also you could remove the ignition switch from the column and manualy work that too for now.

We had a similiar issue with my sons old Focus. Try hitting it straight on with a rubber mallet. Believe it or not it worked for me.

So how do i remove it with the key still in? With the key stuck in the ACC position, i can't get the steering cover off. If i need to replace this, how much is that to replace?
