Junking the contour

It depends on the states. When I bought my SVT I just drove home with the CA tags. My other options were to take my Maxima's tags and put them on the SVT (legal in MA, but would have surely gotten me pulled over by any cop who ran the tags) or NH temp tags (which required a bill of sale to obtain, which I didn't yet have, and are illegal to drive through MA for some screwy reason).

Overall it was pretty painless though. NH took care of the out-of-state title and mailed me one within a few weeks.
 
no doesnt offer transit tags, unless the laws have changed:shrug: you either have to trailor it or magically register it in ny w/a bill of sale and title signed by the previous owner. ny is really really strict. i've bought half a dozen car's out of state and just plate and tag slap them. illegal,and would net me a huge fine and a felony charge.
