i don't want to pull the stock h/u out as i will lose the display for the hvac, as well as outside temp and time.

so i'm forced to use some sort of cleansweep type device. has anyone ever used one? the only beef i have with it is the master volume control... i like being able to control the volume from the steering wheel.

any other options? and what are your opinions on devices like the cleansweep? i talked to bob for a bit at SZ and he seemed to have a favorable opinion of them.

Almost put a clean sweep in for a guy, I've heard good things about them. Another piece you could use that is similar would be a Line Output Converter (LOC) It takes high level inputs and give you low level outputs for your RCA's with adjustable gain. Your car has rear shelf speakers IIRC which would make it really easy to integrate in the rear for signal.

a line out converter and a "clean sweep-type product" are not even close to being the same. That is like saying a Yugo and a Ferrari have the same performance because they are both cars....

Okay, I did a little more reading over of the clean sweep products, because my knowledge before on them was limited to what a customer had try to explain to me, shame on me for using hersay, I apologize. After reading into them though they are way better than a LOC. They help restore eq that is lost from the factory setup and provide you with outputs to aftermarket amplifiers. Just head on over to JL's site and open the PDF on them (explains it way better than I can), there are some pretty sweet add-ons as well that make me want to install one in a new car just to play with it.

Peace!

If you'd like a couple other places to check on this product where you are much more likely to find people that have used one, check out the forums at www.carsound.com and www.elitecaraudio.com.

I did a search for "clean sweep" at ECA and came up with the following thread and informative quote:

http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/showthread.php?threadid=147298
The Mazda Bose systems have perfectly flat head unit outputs. No Cleansweep or similar device is needed to fix the freq. response.

If you use an amp with differential-balanced inputs (like the JL's) you don't even need a line output converter.

The non-Bose systems are equalized in the head unit and require CleanSweep or similar for correction of the response.

Hope that helps,

I can tell you that I know Manville personally and he doesn't spew marketing bs on these sites. I'd trust him with anything to do with car audio in general and JL in particular. There is some additional information from Manville in that thread that you may find interesting.
