is this what is causing p1451

well i replaced the part that came off the from with the green cap as suggested by Sam but that didnt help so im taking the next step
 
Okay. Google "ford contour evap canister". In the images tab, its the second & third photos. Same part... It's underneath the car right by the fuel tank, very close to the evap canister itself. First check for loose or corroded wiring in the area. If all checks out, replace that part.
 
This shouldn't cause the symptoms you are describing. Cap off the evap port on the engine side so that it is isolated from your EVAP system (yes, this may trigger more codes). Drive the car and see if it still does what you are describing with the "bucking" or hesitation.

Run a fuel pressure test and or buy a tester with a long enough hose that you can route it out from under the hood and tape the gauge to your windshield to monitor it while you drive. If the pressure drops below 52 psi or so, your pump could be failing or your fuel pressure regulator may not be operating correctly off-idle assuming we are talking about your '98 with a return fuel system.
 
Thanks Grease that is kinda what I was thinking I mean the one part still might need to be replaced but everything I have read says it doesn't cause a drivability issue I don't have those tools but a buddy does
 
Greasemonkey is probably right. However, i'm a firm believer in that u start with simple repairs & move to the more complicated/expensive ones. A fuel pump will cost u considerably more than the evap vent tube. Ur call tho...

The approach shouldn't be just throwing parts at it. I realize sometimes there are inconclusive tests and that replacing parts is the only option but definitely try to get that fuel pressure tested running and not running to rule that in or out.

Now that i think about it, my truck didnt have any driveability issues when it pulled this code. Nevertheless, i still say he replace that part. O.P, the part is about 10bux @ a junkyard. Buy two in case one is broken. Still much less than a new one. Its damaged. Fix it. Thats why u have that code. Maybe its a pet peeve, but i dont continously drive vehicles with CELs, especially when i categorically know what is causing it...

Edit- And yeah, as greasemonky said, u should still check ur fuel pressure.
 
ok so i have a new code old code is gone now but i have po102 and po103 i replaced the maf with a used one still same then i purchased a new one and ideas where to go next
