is deleting AC worth if ?

Try living down south and not having air.:blackeye:

Since you never see long term summers, it's no problem for you and I

I must admit without the ac the engine bay looks way better!!
i did,i lived in charleston,sc for a summer when i first got my 96se...a/c barely worked...it was liveable, but i had cloth at that point.

Life the hood, go over to the passenger side and there should be a sticker placed on the strut mount. It will tell you the belt needeed for AC and without. IF you really want, you can look in the how-to section for the belt needed. Or you can find one at an autopart store.

yup its one of the standard questions for their computer system: year, model, make, engine, w/ or w/o a/c.

I thought long and hard on this question last night [please note my one car has it gutted out, and my other will have it removed soon].

from the perspective of power/performance... no, its dumb and pointless.

for resale it is terrible... but with it being as low as it is, that probably doesn't matter [especially if its already broken].

its definitely sweet for engine bay bling... you get to see a lot deeper into the abyss.

but heres where I was stuck in thought. it really IS a big deal weight wise. Sure its only 20 pounds and its depressing to pull it and find out its really that light, but its still 20 pounds pulled from the very front of an incredibly nose heavy car. If your quest is weight reduction, pulling the A/C wouldn't be the first thing on my list [start with a lightened hood and moving the battery], but I'd have to put A/C third on the list of front end lightening. There is a good 100 pounds you can pull from the front end which is significant, but your simply not going to reach that keeping the A/C in place.

one more question, and then i think we are all set here... what do u meen "lightened hood".. bensonville
btw, thats for thinking hard about that and sharing you thoughts

thanks to everyone who posted. -Tom

well I pulled my belt yesterday and replaced it with a non-ac belt.

let me just say in my 99, that its much easier to pull the belt and can be done without removing anything from the car [barely]. my 96 with the older style motor mount and slightly different routing of the PS hard line, well for that I had to remove quite a few things to swap belts [I also had to pull the PS pump so the debate of whether I could do it with or without removing a bunch of junk is moot].

eitherway, if you want to give it a go, definitely start with pulling the belt. It'll give you a taste of how time consuming pulling the system can be and its something you can always reverse. If you want to know more, I will be doing a detailed photo writeup hopefully in a week [but only if the weathers good].
