ok so i guess im on the lookout for a SVT manifold (posted in WTB) per my mechanic. I guess one of the runners is bad causing the O2's to run lean and making the check engine light come on. I need to pass emissions soon so i have to get this done. My question, is this a common problem with SVT's? I have a hard time believing the manifold has to be replaced, can't it just be fixed?

No. Nobody has ever had a bad runner. Chances are your gasket is bad. If its got a lot of miles on it, its probably cracked and coming apart.

I think its time to find a new mechanic. :troutslap:

yeah i really dont see how a manifold could go bad, but he said it happens to these cars all the time.. does anybody know anybody with a parts car i could snag a manifold off of? instead of replacing all the gaskets and hoping it works.

Buy the gaskets and a bunch of Berrymans B12 chemtool and do it yourself or bring your car to me and I'll do it alot cheaper then your "mechanic"

I've never once heard someone on ceg or fco say "BAH! my manifold :censored::censored::censored::censored: the bed!"

i agree with everyone else on this, no way you intake has gone bad (unless it's cracked and that is far fetched). replace the gaskets.

It's shady mechanics like that who give honest mechanics a bad reputation. *insert donkey-punch icon*

Intake manifolds, as others have said, don't fail. That makes as much sense as saying your seat is uncomfortable because the door handle has failed, and you need a whole new door.

So, give someone from the contour club a little beer money and have them take care of your properly. The first time a mechanic lies to you is when you take your keys from him, and tell him to piss off and you're not going to allow a thief to take advantage of you.

I have determined that I have the same problem with my intake. I get a lean bank 1 code and my mileage is crap. (21 MPG) and my CEL is on. I plan on doing this sometime in the next couple of weeks. I'm waiting for a warm day so I don't have to run my heater in the garage to much to keep it warm in there. I live south of Chicago.

Holy F'n chit! Get that thing awwaaaaaaaaay from that tard! OMFG. Worst human working on cars of all time.

AAHHHH!

AAHHHH!

ok still looking for a LIM (lower intake manifold ) to fix my problem. Am in dire need of one so i can pass emissions. If anybody knows anybody with a good one plz let me know.

BTW 2 mechanics said the seal on the lower intake manny was bad, so i have to believe 2 diff mechs.

There saying the gasket is bad not the manifold, You can pull it off and replace it yourself. For how much it costs do it yourself and see if it works, It shouldnt take more then an hour or two. Better then buying a 150 manifold.

Go to the Ford stealer buy all the gaskets for the UIM and LIM. Get a gallon of Berrymans cleaner and probably about 6 cans of the spray Berrymens B12 chemtool. Pull the UIM and LIM clean everything replace the gaskets and carefully reassemble it. Make sure all your secondary linkage is working correctly, clean out the heads as much as you can. You can get alot done in a few hours. let the UIM soak over night and the Berrymens will dissolve all the crap in it. This is an easy DIYer job EVERY CSVT owner SHOULD do.

I'd say every owner should LEARN how to do, as its the starting block for all other projects. muhafuha if you really want a LIM, I have a spare to sell but I can assure you that is not your problem.

you need a bunch of gaskets, a 10mm socket [deep and regular], some carb cleaner and a 6 pack of beer.

Even if you do decide to change the LIM you'll need a new set of gaskets. So you might as well just try the gaskets first and see if they solve the problems.

alright ill try changing the gaskets , ive been avoiding workign on the car cuz im so sick of workign on cars in general.. i really dont completely understand what the problem is but its not the gaskets, its something to do with the IMRC(?) throttle control or something to where theres a vaccuum leak causing o2 probs, which causing a cel code.

It wasnt a big deal to me but i didnt realize how hard a fricken LIM was to get for these cars. so ill take ur advice n tear it up myself n replace everything beneath .

While im at it i wanted to change the K&N filter w a new one , does anyone know a part number for that by chance?

All of this posting for an upper and lower manifold gasket change can fix. A well versed CEGer in your area could have fixed in an hour. Take it to someone that knows these cars. It's not a big deal
