I've been searching and trying to find info on fixing/repairing/testing the IMRC. It seems lately like it's not pulling like it used to.
I remember seeing an article some time back about how to fix the circuit board. I found the article on cable replacement. A way to test it with my multimeter would be nice as well. I looked in the archived tech tips and was not able to find any info to my liking on the IMRC

Will the 2ndaries actually open up if the car is not moving and just being revved? All the times I've done that I've never actually noticed if they do or not.

Any help info would be appreciated

Typically a faulty IMRC will throw a CEL but not always. You can check it without actually driving the car. Just get under the hood and rev it up to 4k and watch the linkage for movement. If you hit 4k and there is no movement, you have a problem.

I did have a CEL come on @ SZ, had one of the guys code scan it, was my O2 IIRC again.... CEL went away after driving for a bit. I know I just fixed that stupid clip for the butterflies, and I know that is intact. I'll give the rev a test and see if I'm having any movement.

Yes. The IMRC will open if the car is not moving, or supposed to anyway.
Heres a video of what to look for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE5F3caDgtk&feature=related

Is this you are talking about?

Here's a article of the real nitty gritty of testing:

Here's the wiring diagram of the connector

Hope that helps.
I always have problems with IMRC's ...little bastards. Let me know if you need spare parts for one, i got quite a bit.

Well took a look at the rod while revving it up, did the same thing as the video. Weather under WOT or gradual acceleration to over 4K RPM, the rod is actuating. Stupid question possibly? Is there another rod for the other side of the motor? I'm guessing there are two butterflies that open, one for the front bank and one for the rear bank correct? If so maybe the rod for them has came disconnected? It kinda feels like it's pulling, but still seems like it's not pulling completely, maybe I'm losing it.

Trying to look into it closer, I see both banks now. Is it possible for the spring loaded side to still actuate and be sheered somewhere which would prevent it from twisting that set of butteflies?

Edit:
Just got a mirror in there and can see the rod twisting going into the bank. Is it still possible it sheered or something inside? I'm guessing the only way to view that would be to take off the UIM?

The rod actually only opens the front secondaries. The rear ones will open with the IMRC cable.

I just replaced the whole IMRC with a factory new one, as I was getting a P1518 on my LX. Come to find out, my cable had broken/frayed. I can now feel the secondaries, but low end is still a little weak. The car has 110,000 miles on it, and I'm sure the intakes have never been cleaned (1st owner is my best friend), so I would assume the secondaries might be sticking a bit.

Is there a detailed how-to on cleaning the intakes/butterflies?

Also, where do people relocate the IMRC to? The LX has a stock engine bay.
