I'm feeling over overwhelmed pulling motor...

where the heck is the intermediate shaft pinch bolt? i can't find it so i can loosen the subframe and then pull the tranny. help please i've decided to leave the eng in and just pull the tranny but i gotta get the int. shaft out first right?

do i just pull the three bolts holding the bracket for the int. shaft and bearing and the shaft slides out of the diff?

intermediate shaft pinch bolt ?

hmmmmm, as i recall, you just unbolt the intermediate shaft bearing and then the half shaft just pulls out of the transaxle...

and i don't think you even touch the subframe bolts...and i'm not sure there is enough room to pull just the tranny, because there is not very much room on either end. Besides, lining up the tranny would be very difficult to say the least.

wait, are going out the top, or dropping it out the bottom ?

boy, i just don't think there is enough room as far as i recall...are you sure you can clear the flywheel and pressure plate and input shaft ?

it is a MTX right ?

alright i got the shaft out what i'm gonna do is drop the subframe then lower the eng so it tilt's cause i'm going to leave the passenger eng mount connected. that should allow the eng to tilt dwon on the drivers side. alright gotta go lower the subframe i'll let ya know how it goes. thanks again for the help.

by the time you do all that, wouldn't it be easier just to pull the motor/tranny as one unit out through the top ?

sure makes getting things aligned much easier...

I disagree. I pulled the engine and trans recently. Dealing with the water hoses is a pain, if he just has trans issues to deal with he's doing it the correct way. Just hope the sub frame bolts don't give him a hard time.
You only have to drop the drivers side of the sub frame fully.

I went ahead and dropped both motor and trans out the bottom of the car I actually bolted them both back in earlier today since I got all my parts installed. Thanks for your help everyone.

How hard was it to raise the car for the clearance to sneak the engine out from underneath?

Since he has an engine hoist, lifting the engine and trans from the top would have been a lot easier. The coolant hose are not that big of a deal, they are a little PITA but not that bad. You don't even have to touch the radiator and fans. There is enough room to squeez by.

I didn't pull the motor all the way out I brought it diwn far enough for me to do the headers, water pump and udp stuff like that. If I had to do it all over again I would prefer to go out the bottom with the subframe removed there is so much room to get to everything.

Well, when you think about it, that's the way the car is assembled - engine/transaxle and subframe - all up from the bottom. In order to do that very easily though, you'd be miles ahead if you used a lift.

going out the bottom is really easy.....as long as your subframe bolts dont start spinning in place:mad:

That is the biggest problem/fear with our cars as they get older and older. Corrosion and the ease of going out the top is all it takes to sway my decision to srew dropping the subframe.

i had one come off normal, and three just spin,i had no idea about the "trap doors"uner the carpet to get to the rear two, ended up cutting into the frame to get them:blackeye: ,that prob. held up my swap a good day or more
