ONCE AGAIN
The only way that we would make a mold is if the cost of the mold would be paid in full. The cost of the mold that we came up this is about $3000.00. So that would be say 50 people getting into the buy for $60.00 up front. These trunks would be nice though, full vacuum infused mold, nothing but the carbon hand layed in mold. NO air bubbles or ripples in the fiber. The trunks would look great besides being light and super strong.
I would be able to make the hood and ship them for $400.00 on the group buy for 50 people.
Once again the most expensive part of the process is the tooling. After that the price goes down when we get into the group purchase part of things. The 50 people that would send in the money for the tooling and mold process would be keep that fee till the completion point. Then those who paid the $60.00 would be paying $340.00 for the trunk shipped.
Thanks

Justin could you please answer my questions from post below. Thank you.

So I'm curious for this price what we are getting?

How many layers of carbon fiber are you using on these trunks? Are you using a core? If so what is the core made of? Is the structural section of the trunk going to be made of fiberglass or will it be carbon fiber as well? How are you bonding the two sections? Will the trunk retain OEM mounting? If so how are you meshing the fastener into the trunk as the OEM trunk is tapped steel.

In the past I have seen companies just use resin to hold a nut into the fiberglass structure of a hood/trunk to retain OEM mounting. In these same applications I have seen the nut break loose from the resin once the hood/trunk is installed. If you are fastening the trunks in this manner do you guarantee that the nut won't break loose? If it does would we receive a replacement trunk?

Thanks.

I PMed Justin @ TopShop, just waiting his reply to the question. I guess we see that people always want something but when it comes down to actually forking over money people scatter.

Heres the list so you can add your name!:D

1. contourSVT99
2. CSVT#49
3. bagged
4. ryanblacksvt
5. Excel4600c ( NO Molded Spoiler)

Even at $500.00, that's a steal for a quality trunk. I paid more than that for my SEIBON SRT-4 CF trunk, and that was even at my cost.

Yeah i can imagine. not saying that Topshop doesnt put out some quality parts but SEIBON has a hole different way of making thinks and i think there a of a different quality.

Still no answer on the questions... geez what is he up to? I think he has dropped all interest in making a trunk lid. People are only going to pony up the cash if the product is going to be of good quality. Those questions I asked should have been easy to answer...

What would end up happening for the hinges on the trunk?
Well we would glue them down and bolt the hinges to the metal. This way if the bolts we to come loose or break you would just have to tighten or replace them.

I'm confused by your response...

There are no "hinges" so to speak and what is this talk of glue?. There are steel tubes that pivot up and down and are support by struts. These tubes have holes which bolts pass threw and thread directly into the steel frame of the trunk lid. The trunk lids steel frame has four (4) tapped holes.

So the question is how are you going to put these tapped holes into the carbon fiber trunk lid.

Also I didn't see a response to the layers. How many carbon fiber layers are you putting on the trunk? Is the trunk going to have a core material? If so what will be made of? Is the trunk going to have any fiberglass built into it or is it going to be ALL carbon fiber?

Thanks.

Can someone get me a picture of under the trunk? That would be a great help in getting me on the same page as everyone else.
Thanks

Here are some pics I just snapped. Sorry for the Dynamat. I think these should put you on the same page. I think the main question was how these are going to be made; how many layers of CF, will there be a core, will it contain fiberglass or will it be all CF? Refer to the post above yours for the rest of the questions if I missed any.

I didnt know exactly what you needed so I just took pics of everything:shrug:

What we would do is make a 2 part mold(top and bottom). The top would be 1 layer carbon fiber with a backing of 2 layers of fiberglass and the bottom would be 3 to 4 layers fiberglass.
Now what we would do for the mounts would be glue a peice of metal to the bottom of the trunk this way you are not bolting anything into the fiberglass bottom itself. The glue would be just as hard or harder that the fiberglass. Metal bond glue or liquid nails. We do it to the hoods that we make and have had no problems thus far.

That would be the best way I think to make the parts. The metal peices will save a lot of headache in the future.

I agree plus then you would have to worry about overtightening the nuts and bolts and cracking the fiberglass as much.
