IC: CV Shafts... Stage "Simply Unbreakable"

Status
Not open for further replies.
Well I just got off the phone with RCV and they sound excited to work with us. They need a few things though. They would like to have failed cv shaft and a operating cv shaft so they can reverse engineer It.

Interesting possible upgrade, maybe someone gat get in the 12s now :)
I ordered 2 new axles complete from BAT $59 or 69 each, great deal.
You could send them a new one or I may have both a broken one and a working stock one after next weekend if that might help.

I'd have to look more into them to see how legit they are but I have spare cv's that I could ship out to them if need be (provided I am not eating the shipping costs). [I'd provide broken axles as well but mine snapped out of childish stunts so how they broke won't be of much help in determining how to make them not snap due to too much power]

maybe its just me but the first thing I learned in engineering is to design for failure. I'd rather see an cv fail which is cheap and easy to replace than something inside the transmission. your opening up a whole new quandary of weak points. With that said, I am also tantalized with additional engineering pr0n to my car. I have no interest in being part of the initial round but would definitely consider it down the road.

I have one I can send out that is intact but the boot is leaking. iirc its a drivers side.

Sounds good I'll get a hold of you as soon as I hear back from them. After talking with them on the phone he asked that I send an email with pictures of a failed shaft. I sent him the pics of the stage 2 failure a posted above from Ryan's car. So hopefully I hear back from them this coming week sometime. If I don't hear anything by Wed. I'm going to give them another call.

do we have any pictures of stock failures too? That might be helpful if they fail in different places.

Definitely interested. I was looking at the 'stage 2' shafts by DSS and they are about $600 as well so I would definitely want these before the DSS ones.

Alright I finally called RCV Performance and asked the guy what was going on. He said he was looking to receive some CV shafts to inspect. I told him before anyone is willing to send in their CV shafts we need to know what kind of pricing you are going to offer us. So he said he is going to put together a quote for 1,5, and 10 sets of CV shafts and email it to me. As soon as I receive this I will provide another update and then I would be looking to see who could send in their CV shafts. Stay tuned...

How will they be able to address the splines snapping off from the diff side? Can you ask them this specific question and see how they respond to this? I am curious to see.

What will they warranty if their unbreakable axle breaks? At that price, it better cover the tow to the shop, and labour to get all the work done.

I am willing to take the bite to buy a set of unbreakable axles, but I'd like some more information before making any commitments

Apparently these guys are swamped. He wasn't to excited (or so it seems) to put together a quote yet. I think I'm going to call him one last time tomorrow at lunch and see what is going on. If I don't get anywhere... not sure what's left other then going with a DSS stage 2  Only other option is to bite the bullet and send my axles in and see what they come back with.

If they need stock axles to look at mine should be off this week. I have to replace mine since the joints are going bad.

Well I'll call him tomorrow and see what's going on. If they are not willing to give us a quote and don't take time to write me back on my emails... then I don't know if we should bother sending them anything in the mail and expect anything different. However if your willing too... then it's something we can look into. Shoot me a PM and we can go from there.

i'm guessing this is a no-go:shrug:?

Well the guy at RCV Performance has not really been working with me. As he still has not got back with me on a quote. I may just end up getting axles from 96blackse through axles for less since they have stock shafts that are forged and cryo treated for a helluva lot less then what these would potentially cost us.

However that said I will try to give this guy a call one more time and see what the deal is, no promises though.

we all have plenty of time....but i have broken 16 axles thus far, and they all break all over the place, 1 snapped in half mid shaft, countless shatted joints, never knuckle shear though. I will be keeping an eye on this due to my lowness and my fear of launching my new 3.0...lol

Alright I'm going to bring this thing back from the dead. I'm to the point where I need axles and DSS doesn't offer their stage2 axles anymore.

Is there interest??? I will send my axles in to get this going if we can pull some people together for this.
