I won a truck!!!!

WOW.... A nice truck to win.
Fog lights, alloy rims.
You'd figure most give-a-ways like that would be stipped down ones, but that is nice. Good options to have if selling it !!!!
Congrats.
You could so easily buy 3 or 4 'tours now...

this is just me i guess, but i'd have a really hard time getting rid of a brand new free and clear vehicle to possibly buy one that is 8 yrs old or older...

at any rate, maybe its best to sit on the idea for a couple weeks or a month and really decided which way to go...park that truck unhook the battery (assuming you have room for it) and really put together a solid plan that you will be happy with....first time something expensive breaks on that used car, money in the bank or not, that free truck with warranty will be missed

and unless the dealer is willing to trade you even for another vehicle, dont they tack the trade-in they give you onto the price of the vehicle you're buying from them?

anyway, congrats....some guys have all the luck

If you decide to sell it to a "dealer" then take it to carmax. they will give you a pretty damn good price for it as well as you dont have to buy a car from them.

you gotta read his msg again..................he's "upside down" on the Isuzu.
He's not gonna be able to sell it outright and come out ahead. Maybe but highly unlikely.
you cannot tell me that he can't buy an assembled 3L off this site. I didn't tell him to "build" one.

and your idea was what??

My idea was stated above. Even if he is behind on the Isuzu, he is still going to come out ahead if he keeps the new truck, unloads the Isuzu, and pays the difference.

Get over the 3L bs and give this guy some decent financial advice, which he clearly needs if he is behind on the Isuzu...

Not behind, just flipped. Lots of people are flipped or upside down on their cars. It's never a great position to be in, but it's not the end of the world either. Selling the new truck would raise the capital necessary to create positive equity in the Isuzu, at which point it could then be traded, or kept and paid off. Either way, I advocate the approach which eliminates debt, regardless of what vehicle you keep in this case.

Exactly! I would AT A MINIMUM, pay off the portion of the Isuzu that is considered up-side-down. Whatever it takes to get you square, pay that portion off. Whatever you have left over is gravy. You can spend/save it wisely and try to get out of the hole, or get another car, or other depreciating asset that gets you right back into the same spot as before. :blackeye:

until this thread i didnt even know izuzu made a pickup. i guess you learn something new every day

For quite a while, trucks and SUVs were all they made (or badge engineered). I always liked the 1983-1989 Isuzu Impulse.

So instead of saying, he's behind on the car, I will just go along with your terminology of upside down. Here's how I see it: let's say he has to eat a grand or so in the sale of the Isuzu, but keeps the Chevy; he would be ahead. Brand new car with 5 year/100k mile warranty is a money saver IMO. At the end of the day whatever gets him in reliable transportation without a payment is the best option.
