This is a great video of the Exotic Green Rally this year; I've never heard of it, but will have to read up on it. The video features only appropiately dramatic and tasteful music, and none of it took away from the actual sounds! Infact, none of it was dubbed over any of the racing!. . Maybe we can discuss our favorite-ever rally cars; and their past successes; mine is obviously the Escort Cossie, which dominated the early-to-late nineties. Also, since I don't have SPEED Channel, I can't follow WRC (despite it being my favorite form of racing..); matybe we could discuss that as well:shrug:. My specific question... How are the new Evo X, WRX STi, and Focus really cars holding up?

Exotic Green Rally '08... Enjoy:cool:

I love the right turn from the gravel to the road. And uh, the 350Z and I would like to be alone! Drool

I know that the new Impreza takes some getting used to if you've been driving the old one for a while. So far from what I gather is that it is faster when driven conservatively. When it isn't, who knows? It's still too new of a chassis. Mitsubishi doesn't do much factory backing anymore in rally, so it may be a while for a proper evo x to appear. I still think the third generation focus is a thing of pure beauty. It has been unstoppable until now. We'll see if thats still the case when the drivers of the new impreza chassis learn how to squeeze every bit of speed out of it. Rally is the greatest form of motor sport today. It encompasses all forms of driver skill put into one masterful driver. Super special stage rally is way funner to watch than drag racing, and european rallycross is way cooler than nascar. I don't understand how it isn't bigger in the U.S. than it is.

P.S. I love rally racing too!

Thanks alot for the great post! I have always loved the rally Foci, and think that the third gen Focus is a masterpiece; especially the rally trim. I've always likened it to the Escort. Do you have any predictions for the outcome of this season?

All loeb has to do at this point is maintain composure, and he will have the WRC win for the Citreon team. If he cannot do this, the BP Ford team will slip into first and take the season with a for sure "All or Nothing" approach to the end of the season. Watever happens, it will be interesting. The points should be very close at the last rally in Whales.
As for Rally America. It's not a battle for first anymore. There are five serious contenders for second though. If anyone of those five guys beat Pastranna more than once and finish every race, they will probabley clinch second.

Travis is truly a machine.

I'm really glad there's another rally head on here. It's great to get the occasional update:cool:

Sooo, what's your favorite all-time rally car? For me, the Focus narrowly beats out the RS200 simply beacuse it's an Escort; and they're not supposed to be cool:laugh:

My favorite rally car is mine because I'm the driver. Besides mine it's difficult to say. The rs200 would be at the top of my list too. I like the amercan rally cars because they do not allow fancy expensive gearbox's or crazy electronicly controlled lsd's. It's all man and machine. Allthough if you have all that stuff and an infanite budget, you have a WRC car which is what I consider the ultimate race car. European rallycross cars are inscane with there huge amounts of power and light weight. But my favorite rally cars are the ones that were made when the rule book was less than half as thick as it is now. Back when all wheel drive was new, and intake restrictors weren't though of yet. I'm not sure If I like the origional Quattro better, or the RS2. But it would have to bhe one of the old Audi's or the RS200 for sure.

Speaking of rally, I was reading this magazine from 2001 (I saved it because it talks about turbo geometry math) and it had an article about american rally blowing up soon. So what exactly happened that kept it from getting bigger than it is right now?

Nascar got much bigger since then. It blinded American motorsports enthusiest to nearly all other forms of racing. Nascar has also gotten more organized, and emphisizes more on the spectator portion of the racing. That's why it got more popular. Rally has grown a bit in the past few years. I think that the Xgames and coverage on ESPN will continue to help rally grow in the U.S. I don't think it will ever blow up though.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the birth of Rally America. It is the premier Rally sanctioner in the U.S. and since it started a few years ago, rally has had a boost in popularity.

Although I am a huge fan of heavy American Iron doing almost nothing but hurling itself around at insane speeds; I do love finesse as well. I think Rally America has begun to open America's eyes to that balance of hammer-down speed and finess. While rally racing does take pin-point accuracy; it is still, on a basic level, driving as fast sas you possibly can through the woods with nothing but a few headlights and your reflexes to show you the way.

Is Nascar bigger now than in 2001? I remember people getting together to party and watch races back then but not so much now.

There was a little opinion in my statement. Mostly with nascar blinding people. But that is what I've experienced from people. When I say that I race cars, people either think drag racing or circle tracks of some sort. "Like Nascar?" is a very common response. Then they want to know how fast that I go. How do you explain how ludicrus it is to go 90mph through the woods and how extremly difficult it is. But if you consider the amount of airtime on tv is taken up by Nascar, it has got a lot bigger. There's also more channels nowadays with digital cable and satalite being the standard now, so that ties in as well. I do know that a lot of the smaller nascar teams have had budget cuts. Also, I remember more parties taking place before everyone was struggling to keep their jobs and homes with our slumping economy. It really sucks because a lot of people I know fit into that catagory.
