because gas just pours out onto the ground from the middle rear underneath the car..

You need to replace the filler neck. This is a common problem on these cars. If you want to read up on this before you order the part and do the work...do a search for "Splashback" or something along the lines of "Cant fill gas tank". There is plenty of information on this website for this problem. Good luck!!

I don't think so....
Sounds more like you have a massive leak in either the filler pipe or the tank.
Have you done an inspection yet? If not do so.

I'd start with a precursory search underneath the car. if fluid can get out, its likely you can see it.
check the fuel filter, with your car being a 95 it may be incredibly old if you haven't changed it in a while.
Rusted filters, or corroded rubber lines that connect to the filter can allow fuel to escape there.
check the bottom of the tank, and the rubber lines that come out of the tank on the passenger side and run towards the front of the car.
