HVAC - Fan Speed Control INOP

Hey all,

I'm pretty sure my fan speed control switch is the issue, but wanted to make sure. Quick search yielded a whole bevy of HVAC issues but it was difficult to discern whether their problems were the same as my problems. ("It's Broke." "How." "Well, it don't work.")

Anyway, here's my deal. My fan still blows on low speed, the AC still blows cold air, the mixer control works fine. Only thing is my fan stays at "Low" speed regardless of my commanded setting.

I'm betting this is just a problem in the switch, itself, but I wanted to bounce it off you folks before I went off ordering parts, and make sure there wasn't some common, underlying issue that would cause this.

Car is a 96 SE with about 90,000 miles.

TIA

I would guess it is the switch too.

I have the parts, but now I can't figure out how to get the cover panel off. Haynes is not clear. Nor is Autozone. I can't find a how-to in here and I've lost my Ford CD.

It's a 96. Under the radio is that box that I think needs to come out but I can't get it to budge.

Any tips on this or the rest of the procedure would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Tony,

Thanks. My dash layout doesn't seem to match the Autozone instructions, and I don't have the OEM CD player anymore.

That said, I figured out the trim panel just below the HVAC/Radio section that was hiding the top two center console screws. Now I just have to find the right tools to remove my aftermarket head unit. I know I kept them...somewhere...
