How much longer would you expect Contour SVT support to last?

Having read a few topics on parts going obsolete, and already having seen a virtually non existant aftermarket for these cars, I was wondering just how long people expected these cars to last if driven daily and what options for service would be once standard parts start going out of production?

I ask because I use mine as a daily driver and constantly contemplate whether it is worth keeping it or moving to something else? Not that there is anything wrong with it, and it has low miles, but the desire for something new is always strong and also the parts situation isn't too reassuring.
 
I think the aftermarket is actually pretty good for these cars. You have to know where to look though. You won't be walking in a local speed shop anytime soon and having them pull out a catalog for you.

Between Ford, eBay, and local junkyards, I have no problem finding any parts for my cars.
 
Aftermarket (performance/aesthetic) support outside of CEG, until stock runs out of whatever is left.

OEM mechnical/body parts are plentiful all resources considered (Ford, Boneyards, Car-parts.com, Keystone, Certifit, CEG classified).
 
It seems like a lot of people who get rid of their tour seem to regreat it. Even my mom, when she sold me her SE, regrets getting rid of it. She says it was one of the best handling/most fun cars to drive. Don't be too hasty to get rid of it for something "newer"...you will realize what you have.

I am getting an SVT this saturday, so I hope to keep it for a while. :)
 
Building a Taurus SHO will give you an appreciation for the Contour parts arena. We have it pretty good. There are a couple dealerships out there in particular that are good about helping out, and have great prices.

I'm able to get just about whatever I need. My SVT is bone stock with the exception of a K&N air filter, and is maintained rigorously with Motorcraft parts (still readily available in most cases) -- I'm a purist.
 
We'll just need to reproduce parts somehow, or have a huge warehouse full of parts like the deloreon guys got, and how long has that car been out of production? I don't think we'll have an issue with parts though for at least 10-15 yrs.
 
I think it's worth keeping unless it's giving you tons of trouble, shoot I'd love an SVT myself. If I ever came across one I'd sell my Escort just to get it.
Even though my car is a Zetec ATX I still love it shoot I kept it stored in a carport out of the salt over winter. When I got it back out, I was like a little kid in a candy store. :D

Yep, I'm figuring at least that much because we have an active Cougar community for most of the mechanical parts. 3L swaps are fairly common so engine availability is not gonna be a big issue for a LOOOOOONG time. Aftermarket will take care of things like wheel bearings, and brake pads just fine since there are so many Cougars out there. I'm definately not too worried about it.

Frankly, since the car is so cheap on the used market, body parts easily found in most bone-yards, and engines so plentiful, I expect more experimentation & innovation on this platform in the next few years.... ;)

Seriously, stay tuned.

My brother still regrets selling me the Sport, and that was five years ago (almost to the day). He took the time on Easter Sunday after dinner to remind me of that again :)
 
i don't think it'll ever be difficult to find parts for these cars. everything is interchangable except for the SVT radiator - though i believe a normal one works fine.

Having re read some of your posts all I can say is had I been in the same situation I would have gotten rid of the car long ago so long as it was financially viable (read I didn't take a bath on it)...that stinks and I am truly sorry to hear of all your problems.

My car has been for the most part pretty good, though I have since I bought it had this clinking noise comming from the passenger rear, stealership had no idea what it was when I had it under warranty but now they suspect (once it is out of extended) that it might be a shock...nice. Other than that and a faulty fuel pump the car has been ok, and continues to drive well, better than I would expect for a commuter car..hence the crux of the situation, sell a perfectly well working car that is paid for and buy something new and take on more payments for simply going two miles every day to the train stop or just keep and be happy with the tour...I really think sticking it out with the tour is the answer for me as it is fine and I hate car payments.
