So I was curious to know how much money a guy would have in a brand new duratec 3L? And how much would a used 3L be with say 30k miles on it?

Unsure new, reman'ed are usually expensive.

30K should be anywhere between 300 and 500 bucks depending on the area you live in!

I paid $350 for 11k miles!

Hey newbe - a little search for prices would have found you a lot of good info. 18k '05 Taurus 3L $350 delivered. Car-part.com
Check out my build thread, I have a lot of prices listed.

I paid $425 including shipping for an 05 w/44k but like said before it depends on your area. Check out car-parts.com The gaskets and other misc bolts/parts can also run about $300 so don't forget to calculate that stuff too.

i think the last person that bought a brand new block was redlineracer12. he said it was under 1000 for the shortblock brand new after the core charge. and his car produces numbers. of course you'd have to have a set of 3L heads, or it could get costly. i was going to go with a brand new block but i got a 04 sable motor for 250$ with less than 4000 miles on it (fire car, carfax shows the car had 4250 miles when the fire happened)

so i got a friggin steal because the place i bought it from had it sitting there for like three years under a tarp and they didnt know it was even there LOL! thing looks BRAND new (obviously i had to buy a new upper and lower intake for it) and it runs like a top.

don't buy new unless you have money to throw around!

I think it was actually around $1100 (after returning core) for the assembled shortblock when I bought, looks like they're up a bit since then... If you were looking for a longblock I think it would have to be a reman at this point.

I had a bad experience with my first used shortblock, but if you need everything it's definitely a better buy to go used. ;)

You'd be hard pressed to find one that cheap delivered. Delivery is about $200. There aren't any listed for $150.

Expect to pay at least $450 delivered for a used motor and a bit more for one with low mileage. You could go with a 3L Escape motor to save some time on the prep work but you'll pay a lot more for one.

My 3L supplier delivers my 3Ls free of charge.

Just bought an 05 Taurus 3.0L Vin S with 20K on it for $500. Try car-parts.com, it's a great site and who I used to find my motor. You can sort by year, location or price. The lowest I found with lower miles was on the $375 side.

We burned through all the local 3L's a few years ago. Anything left is overpriced or too high of mileage. I'd assume yours are local or for some reason you have a nice shipping hookup. Either way for the normal person purchasing a motor expect shipping to be about $200 if there isn't anything local. Shipping is normally setup so it goes to the closest terminal so you also need to have a truck to pick the motor up.

blackcoog.... start looking in the cities for auto salvages that aren't in the car-part database. that's how i found my engine. brand friggin new damn near!

As long as it to a business they ship for free. There are many suppliers around me so I really dont have to worry about a shortage.

I just found a 2002 3L with 45k for under $300 delivered...... I am buying it.
