How far do I have to go to get the axles out of an ATX?

OK, I'm pulling the engine & trans from my 95 out the top. The manual only goes as far as saying to remove the tie-rod end from the hub and the hub from the a-arm. Is it really necessary pop the the hub off the a-arm? Any tips & tricks about this would be appreciated.

It's not that hard and yes you gotta do that to get the axels out of the trans.
