Not sure if this is troubleshooting or general discussion (if it is general discussion im sorry :( mods)

I'm trying to get my High beams to be just that - high beams. I don't want DRL's (They were installed on the car in canada, but I don't need DRL's in MI. I use headlights regularly) as they make the car look funny, kinda crosseyed. It's a 95 mystique, and I tried jumpering a couple of the terminals in relay R1 under the hood.

Specifically, 4 to 5 and 2 to 5, attempting to avoid voltage backfeed. This did not work, and I blew the main light fuse under the dash twice. My question is - where do i place a jumper, or what do I remove on the relay in order to accomplish the no DRL but working high beams?

I've attached the electrical schematic and the relay diagram. If there's issues with the images, let me know and I'll link to google drive or something

When the DRL relay is removed a jumper is required. Without the jumper only one high beam will function. IIRC, looking from the front of the car the jumper goes from left to right, the terminals are perpendicular to each other. So from the shop manual I believe its from 1 to 5. If you can get a jumper it will only go in one way, again iirc.

Google .... this link should have a photo of the fuse box with the drl jumper.

I will try later. From the picture, it appears to be 1 and 5. I have plenty of jumpers handy, they are easy to make for testing purposes.

Pulling the relay in this car causes the high beams to not function at all, as would be expected. Being that this was a factory standard thing, I can see why it's difficult to modify it.

Thanks!

Just an update - Jumping 1 to 5 made it work! Tested with the other lights too and nothing malfunctioned. I'm going to be gutting a relay later to avoid having bare metal exposed.
Thanks for the help!

No need. the metal jumper is how it came from the factory.

Oh, I see. I'm not too worried, as right now there's some heavy gauge wire with a couple of 1/4" male connectors on it. I was going to put the gutted relay in to preserve looks ( I know it won't be seen, but still).
