HID's installed

I sort of agree with Csvt 49 on the HID's ... and I have HIDS in my car. (They were installed by the PO of the car). Sure, they're bright but the beam pattern is horrible. There are hotspots in the pattern straight ahead and the side lighting is no better than ordinary halogens.

When the HID bulbs die I'll be ripping out the ballasts and putting HIR bulbs back in.

Hahaha... I love it when I see those.

As for the HID kit.... FAIL, of EPIC proportions. There is a reason why HID lights are only found with headlights designed for HID... your halogen headlights beam the light everywhere and in the process blinding other drivers :nonono: I get pissed everytime I see someone do this. Makes me wish I could be behind you on the road with the same setup at night blinding the living piss out of you... then maybe you'd think twice about just shoving these lights in any headlight housing.

I mean seriously look at your pic, and then compare it to a car that had HID's from the factory... there is a cut off... it has a purpose...

mine has a cut off...but its a cougar so it has projectors

I love when I see posts like these trying to degrade the tens of thousands of people with HIDS in stock housings.

While the cut-off on projectors do look magnificent..

Next time someone lowers their SVT.. I hope you post.. "Ford engineered the suspension to be perfect the way it was!"

In all honesty no one who puts HIDs in their stock halogen housings cares if it's a humongous benefit. Just like most of the guys on here with lowering springs and big brake kits -- they never use them to their potential. It's fun to have cool mods whether or not they're 100% worth it. We own Ford Contours. Not Porsche Caymans.

Next time someone posts a turbo project I'll be sure to show them the FAIL of upgrading a car with such terrible traction from a dig. There's a reason cars with high horsepower aren't FWD.

i've been wanting HIDs, and after all of the threads i think i'm going to get them after christmas. i have a question, dies anyone have a picture of the HIR bulbs on a contour? i thought i saw something in a thread a few days ago but i can't find it now. i live in the in the sticks and do plenty of night driving. i'm wanting better light output, so i'm thinking HID low beams and HIR highs? i'm wanting as much light out in front of me as possible and short of mounting a light bar i don't know what else will work.

It's hard to tell how they're aimed from pictures. The camera almost always makes the HID light output look like it's out of control. I have HIDs without projectors that I've been running for almost 6 years now. I have NEVER been flashed by another driver and I've actually seen what they look like in someone's rear view mirror. They are not blinding at all. Aim them properly and you'll never have a problem. And even without projectors, a 4300k HID setup is 100 times better than stock halogen bulbs.

And yes, for every 1 person that aims them down, there are 100 idiots with them aimed up. I'm so sick of being blinded by morons that don't install them right.

The projector cutoff is slick, but there are many non-projector factory HIDs out there. 2000 Lexus ES300 for example has factory HID as an option, without projectors.

I think I should put hid's in my h4 conversion housings on the Cherokee. Nothing says road hazard like a poor light housing on a lifted vehicle.

True, there are plenty of cars out there with factory HIDs and no projectors. The biggest difference is that the housing was designed for HID ouput and typically have auto-leveling sensors. My old IS300 and my mother's RX300 had the same setup. If the sensor fails, the headlight defaults the light to drop down all the way to avoid blinding anyone. Auto-leveling is done almost instantly as you drive. If you accelerate hard and the front end lifts, the headlight drops right back down as soon as it detects it's off level.

I have no pictures, but having used HIR bulbs the light output is much better than any regular halogen bulb and the beam pattern is good. Yes, HID bulbs are brighter but IMO you lose much of that benefit by having to aim your lights lower.

I had the old HIR bulb, the newer HIR 2 is supposed to be even better. Here's a link if you're interested
