I'm trying to replace my heater motor fan switch and need to remove the bezel around the heater control assembly. Everything I've read says to remove the ash tray and radio (done that) and remove the two screws at the bottom of the bezel. As hard as I've looked, I can't find any screws. Might that bezel just snap on and off? I don't want to pry to hard for fear of breaking it. It is a 1996 SE ATX

Cool
The two screws that your looking for is behind that straight black plastic piece that is over your storage compartment. Pull down on that black piece you'll see the clips holding it in. You must pry that plastic piece out and the screws will be behind it. once you take those screws out you will still need to pry the bezel a little recommend to do that in the corners. I hope this helps

I did see those 2 screws and began to undo them but it seemed like they only loosened the trim bezel around the ash tray and storage compartment. I'll give it a try again tomorrow. Thanks.

Mine pulls right out, put the tilt of the steering wheel all the way up, and pull. Make sure you disconnect the dimmer switch once you get it a bit of the way out too.

I guess I just needed to eat my Wheaties. Pulled a bit harder and it came right off. Always afraid to pull to hard thinking it might also be held in place with a few screws. Thanks guys!

Do you think this is why my heater switch wasn't working? Can you say FRIED? Besides replacing the switch itself, I think I need to get the wire harness too.

There was a recall for that. You may want to check with your dealer to see if your car may still be covered. Call their service department with your VIN and ask them to run an OASIS.

I think it is 10yrs/150K miles whichever comes first.

Edit. It is not a recall. It is a Extended Customer Satisfaction Warranty.

01M07 Extended Coverage Program 10 years/150k miles.
"On your vehicle, the heater blower switch may lose function in one or more of the blower switch positions. If this should happen, defrost performance may be affected."

I hope the recall works for you. I had the same problem with the heater switch. I have a 95 so I was past the recall time. I got lucky I went to salvage yard and found a Tour with a good plug in it put it in works great

I went to Ford today cause my contour quit blowing heat out on all settings except for hi. I did some searching first and found out about the warranty. I talked to some idot in the ford garage and he told me they would first have to charge me $60 dollars to do a check, to make sure it was the correct part that was bad. Then he told me he needs to check my vin numbers to see if I qualify.... I just told him forget it. I would do it myself, but have no tools and no knowledge of cars :(

So, what do you want? A medal? Or did you want them to diagnose the problem for free? Actually, from the techs point of view, it probably would be a freebee because he probably wasn't going to get zip from the dealer for doing the diagnostic anyway. So I guess you saved him from wasting his time. Good-O!

If you don't have a Phillips screw driver, then go get one. Only tool needed.

Are you being nasty because you have more post count than Todd? Some of us have more post count than you. It can't be because he signed up later than you, can it? Because he did sign up earlier than you. :nonono:

And Merry Christmas to you too!

Para Espanol,
Feliz Navidad.

No I wasnt expecting them to do anything for free. The person who waited on me was really mean and nasty, while the cleak next to me told another customer they wouldnt charge them for a dianostics if the part in question was in fact under warranty. That customer had a older car, just didnt think it was fair. I didnt put all this in my first post, but didnt also think I would get some nasty replies. This sure is the season...
