Help me fix my car

well, since you arent racing, you can show up anytime you like.

ood Morning……You cone junkies!!!

The June14 &15 SVTOA autox at Fort Devens is almost here! Please read through this email so you understand what will be going on come Saturday and Sunday mornings and throughout both days. Directions to the Devens Air Strip are located at the bottom of this email.

Two days, two separate events - There are a lot of the same people registered for both days but some are only registered for one, so we are going to keep things separate for each event.

Weather – The forecast is looking a little cooler for Saturday and Sunday….mid 70’s, but who knows what the forecast will bring. Come prepared for anything.

No Shows & Leaving Early – I spend a lot of time before each event getting everything ready so we can put on a smooth event. When someone doesn’t show up we have to scramble around to find a course worker to fill your spot and it wastes time for everyone else. If you can’t make it to the event please let us know ahead of time. We have people that always want in at the last minute and can probably even find someone to buy your spot, though we cannot guarantee that. The Auto X will run from 7am – 6pm, it’s a long day and we are counting on everyone to help out in some way, from setup to working the course to cleanup. Please plan to be there all day!

7AM Arrival! – Yes it is early. We have a lot of things that need to happen before a car can even go around the course so please don’t be late! If you are going to be late, please call ahead and let us know. The number is below.

Sign The Waiver! – When you pull through the gate there will be someone holding a clipboard with the release waiver on it. Everyone (Including spectators) need to sign the waiver before you can come in. This is very important, if you come through the gate and nobody is there with a waiver please come up to the Tent and ask where it is so you can sign it. Minors are allowed and must be accompanied by an adult that must sign the special minor waiver.

Park Your Car – After you sign the waiver please park your car along either side of the tarmac. Please do not approach the tent until you are called for the drivers meeting! Pull out any loose items from the car that may fly around later. (radar detector, change, sunglasses, floor mats, small children etc… ) Check your trunk and ensure that your spare tire is securely bolted down, if not take it out. Check the fluids in the car, make sure nothing is leaking, check the tires and ensure the lug nuts are tight. Use Common Sense and don’t bring a car that is not safe! We do not have access to Air or Water on the airstrip. Don’t forget to put on your numbers!

Tech/Registration Line – Once your car is empty pull it into the center of the tarmac and someone will do a quick inspection. They will check your name and car number and then place a GREEN or RED sticker on your windshield with your work assignment and class on it. The color of the sticker is which run group you are in (Red or Green), the number indicates which station you will be working on the course when the other group is running. Look at this and remember it, RED or GREEN and a Number. This is important so you know when to run and when to work! Tech closes at 8:30, don’t be late! You are required to have an SA2000, SA2005 or higher rated helmet. M helmets of any year will be rejected. The tech guys will be looking for this. Please bring a proper helmet.

Drivers Meeting – After you finish with Tech/Registration put your car back on the side and the meeting will be started. We will hold a 10 min drivers meeting to explain the rules and use of safety items. Everyone needs to be at the tent for this to take place; we can’t start without you so don’t hold up the group! We will explain which group is running and working 1st during the meeting.

Course - After the meeting we will have a slow 5mph drive around the course instead of a walk this time. Please, at least two people per car. Since we will be there for two days, the course will remain set up over night. We may or may not run the course in the opposite direction on the second day.

Workers – Group one workers on Saturday will chalk their respective sections; group two workers will stack cones at the event’s close on Sunday.

1st Car Off! - When we finish the drive around we need group one workers out ASAP to chalk their section. We want to get started! One the sections are chalked, we will perform a radio check and the course will go live.

Radios - We will have a radio sitting at every worker station, DO NOT bring these in with you. Leave them out there for the next worker. We will do a radio check by calling out each station number, you must respond back before we can start. You can bring your own Radio but make sure it works correctly.

Lunch – We are bringing in the lunch at no additional cost to the drivers….Pizza on Saturday, and subs on Sunday. There will be a decent assortment of items, but if you have special dietary concerns, please bring your own lunch. Bring additional liquids to drink.

Trophy Meeting – After the last set of runs is completed on Saturday LEAVE THE CONES OUT!!! We will hold a quick meeting to call out the top times in each class and hand out the trophies to the winners. We will then break for the night and come back for Sunday’s festivities.

Cleanup – Saturday evening, the gate will be locked, but you are allowed to leave your car behind if you are running on Sunday. We always need help cleaning up the tent area and picking up the cones after the Sunday event is over. If you can spare 15-20 min it would be much appreciated!

My Cell Phone is 617-892-0306 if you have any questions. We will go over all of this info again in the Drivers Meeting. If you have any suggestions or feedback on how we can make things better please let us know!

Directions - The Devens Airstrip is located off the Bishop Road gate in Ayer, a little north of Route 2 and West of Route 495. Both directions converge at a Rotary in Ayer at the junctions of routes 110, 111, and 2A. There is a Ford dealer (Gervais), a Wendy's, and a McDonald's at this rotary.

From Route 495:

Take exit 30, route 2A and 110, West toward Ayer. Proceed 4 miles to rotary.

From Route 2:

Take exit 38B, route 110 and 111, North toward Ayer. Proceed 2 1/4 miles to

rotary.

From the rotary, proceed west on routes 2A and 111. This will take you to Ayer center, and at about one mile routes 2A and 111 turn right; so will you. Proceed one half mile to Bishop Road on the left. There are a Dunkin Donuts and a Cumberland Farms along this half-mile. Landmarks for

Bishop Road include a sandwich board sign for Park Street Garage, electrical sub station, and a fancy wood sign for the Ayer Animal Hospital . You can find Bishop road in Ayer@maps.yahoo.com

On Bishop Road you will pass a cemetery, a railroad line and then a chain link gate. You are now on the former Fort Devens . About 1/2 mile in there is a fork in the road where you will turn right (should be autox signs), then continue to bear right onto a dirt road which enters the airstrip. Registration and waivers are done at this entrance and the first runway is the paddock. NOTE the *only* Services available at the site are porta-potties.

I will bring you my extra wires and my computer. Hopefully we can figure it out. Non work or driving time seems to be early in the morining or lunch time.

Well after driving Ibrent's car it is not a misfire it is more of a stumble. It is not as violent as the misfires that I was getting previously. My car actually does the same stumbling thing just not as bad. I think it has something to do with the stock tune since mine has done it for a long time also.
Sorry my OBD tool didn't work but see if you can get your buddies snap on tool to read the MAF to see if it is fluctuating. Other things you can try are the stock screen over the MAF, swap a MAF with some one to try, and maybe try a stock air box. A tune might be the only way to fix it. Wish I could have helped more.

I appreciate the effort though. I was really hoping that would fix it. I'll try what you suggested.

Anybody in the new england area have a stock airbox and a known-working MAF I can borrow for a weekend?

I have one you could borrow for a few days

I was just doing some searching for a guy with an Escape about the DPFE and ran into a focus site were they were talking about fluttering of throttle. This might make sense. Something in the EGR causing this. Maybe you should try cleaning the EGR and borrowing a DPFE from someone to see if it fixes it.

ever thought of gettin the tranny flushed and changed? .. my car bucks too but it was only during shifting .. and that helped me

i made a post in troubleshooting but I will update here also.

drove the car and also swapped in a stock airbox and maf, no change.

to me it seems like a fuel delivery problem as its kinda like my SVT at times.

can't rule out egr but it shouldn't be going anything except for at cruise conditions.

maf and O2 sensors looked normal.

only thing that I saw that was interesting was there where what looked like some fuel pump pulse width drop outs and I belive that they happened when the bucking happened. other then that the fuel flow increased as I expected with rpm.
