hey guys. i have an idea. what if i were to replace the resonator with a true magnaflow muffler. then just piped the rest in stainless to the tips and have no mufflers in the back? would that make it louder or what? is it for better or worse? performance? :shrug:

Bad idea.

You have already have 1 cat on each manifold. Then a main cat after the y-pipe.

If you want, you can go ahead and remove the mufflers..that will make it louder.

Or you can remove the resonator and upgrade it with a maganflow resonator. (not a cat).

Or you can cut the mufflers off...and if it's till not loud enough remove the main resonator and put in a magnaflow.
 
so your thinking i would make it quieter. ill try the no mufflers. but i think the magnaflow with no mufflers is the key im guessing for a loud tone

That will make it really loud. But you might as well go in steps...that way you will know if you want to go 1 step back later :cool:
 
Put a thrush glasspack in place of the resonator and leave the mufflers. It's only a $20 - $25 experiment.

It may or may not make it louder. Completely different engines and such but I replaced my muffler with a glasspack on the Jeep and left the cats alone. Big difference in tone. It's a louder and deeper tone than stock. Again though, big difference between a 4.0L straight 6 and a 2.5L V6. :laugh:
 
well my setup is. i have my precats and i have no main cat i have a test pipe that then splits to two pipes and goes straight to the back of the car and goes to 2 SVT rear mufflers and tips... at idle it sounds deep and mean, but when u get in to it around 5 grand it starts to get raspy. but i got the set up for free so i cant really complain and its not to loud inside of the car. my set up is the opposite of what u were thinking.. but this is just my 2 cents..

i also have a optimized Y-pipe, and 99Mystique ATX likes to say my car has balls now... :crazy:

Oh...that thing was loud..and then very raspy....but it was the FIRST of it's kind. Single inlet to a dual outlet.

yea it has alot of rasp when u go.. but idle sounds so good, and driving is not to bad for how loud it is.. some day i am going to make it in to a true dual and maybe some glass packs to quite down the rasp..
 
My borla sounds better!

It does sound good at idle, a little raspy when you get into it though... Yes, that was tour96se/95pgt-t's old setup. I acquired it when I picked up my 95 SE...

My 3.0 is gonna need true duals next year I think... Although I doubt i'll see much as far as gains go over the opt-y/svt main cat/borla setup...
 
well of course ur set up sounds better! wish i had a borla.. but i will stick with the free setup.. maybe when i come back up i will finally install some glass packs on it..
