Ok, so I have a functional question about an ATX. I don't think there is anything wrong with my car when it happens, it's just a freak thing that the car shouldn't be subjected to, I guess...

But anyways, if I am to floor it, for one reason or another, while taking off from a stop, and then I for some other reason have to immediately decelerate and COMPLETELY let go of the gas, my RPM's drop sharply from very high to very low, and the car jerks REALLY hard. I think the tranny is upshifting, but I can't be certain. It is very hard to tell but seeing as it is dropping in RPM's so suddenly it is most like upshifting. Anyone know why an ATX does this jerking?

Could be the TSS, but that causes 1-2 "bang shift". Your trans is likely going form 1st to 3rd quickly.

Line pressure overrun. There's a shift kit that eliminates it but it requires drilling your valve body.

Watch out because it can destroy your ATX. Like others have said, if you don't let the throttle slam shut, you can prevent it. It scared the crap out of me when my 'tour first did that.

Eeks. I'll try and keep from this happening from now on, lol. I'm kind of a road rage type from time to time, and pull away quickly. But then you get that jerk that drives five under the speed limit in front of you . Stupid ATX's. I'm gonna learn to drive standard, lol.

Bang Shift. Change the Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor. Note that this is also called VSS in www.teamfordparts.com. Put in the correct part number and you should be good to go.

Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor $26 (the one that fixes "Bang Shift") is TSS: 1S7Z-7M101-KA. This comes out as vehicle speed sensor in the online parts order but it is the Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor.

Edit. Good thread here.

Just remembered, caution installing TSS

TSS rusts in pretty bad, if your car has seen many winters. Mine had to be destroyed and drilled out to remove.

My '95 Zetec and '96 Duratec ATXs have both done this as well. I've just learned when to let off so that it doesn't happen.
ditto wit hmy 96' duratech. Doubt any fix is worth the trouble/money over not dropping the throttle, or by accelerating until the car upshifts to 3rd (i think) in the powerband at about 50-60ish, then it won't jerk when you let off the pedal suddenly. at least thats been my experience.
