On a 2.5l V6 Duratec engine, how can one remove the fuel rails to better access the LIM? It's a closed return fuel system, so theres two fuel rails sitting under the UIM and on top of the LIM. Thanks guys!
=/ i know that.
But after i removed my uim, im left with the fuel injuectors and fuel rails, but in the haynes manuel, it says to just unscrew the bolts secured to the LIM. but it still wont come out, seems like its still attached to the fuel pressure regulator and back to the fuel tank. how do i remove those rails to access the LIM?
You can leave the injectors and fuel rail on the LIM when removing the manifold for cleaning, do you have the spring clip tools for disconecting the lines to the rail? If not get some at Harbour Freight or auto parts store. I like the tool with assorted thin plastic rings, cheap and different sizes. Once you have have it disconected, the rail unbolts from the manifold and injectors may be removed.
After taking UIM off, just remove the wires, release the pressure using Schroeder Valve and unbolt (6 as far as I remember) screws connecting the rail to the LIM.
And then pull the injectors one by one (let's start from the left) out with the rail.
You can use flat srcewdriver (but carefully) to take it out - injectors are sealed with o-rings, so it has to be "unclicked"
either remove the fuel rail before pulling the lim and leave it connected to the fuel lines or get the fuel line/ac disconnect tools and disconnect the fuel lines after bleeding the pressure off. then the lim comes out as a whole with the fuel rail.
shouldn't need ascrew driver to get anything apart. the rail is bolted to the lim with 4 bolts iirc.
also be mindful of the imrc clips as you will have to remove the link bar to get the rail out, iirc.
