I have diagnosed my issue to the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor. It appears the diaphragm is blown. I can get the car to run fine by plugging the vacuum hose nipple and disconnecting the wiring but now the check engine light is on. I have tried Ford and every other parts house I can think of and I am unable to find a replacement Fuel Pressure Sensor.

According to Ford, the part is NO LONGER AVAILABLE and I have had no luck finding a replacement. Everyone is trying to sell me the fuel tank sensor or the fuel pressure regulator. Apparently they had 3 different fuel systems. A return system and 2 non-return systems, one mechanical and one electronic. I have the electronic system with a blown diaphragm.

Anybody have a source for a Fuel Pressure Sensor or a work around for the check engine light?

are you looking for used? I would look at u-pull Junkyards. Check if other fords use it also. Example the Taurus and fusion that also use the duratech.

having a fpr that has an electrical connector means its a late 99 with a returnless fuel system. Suggest searching for the part using MY 2000 instead of 99, might help.

I got curious enough to go look at my recently acquired 2000 SE 2.5L. It has the same style sensor as the OP's but the vacuum line is capped off at the sensor.

I did some poking around and also came up empty handed for a replacement sensor for the 99-2000 Contour and the Cougar (up to 2002).

I wonder if a Standard FPS6 for the '00 Taurus Duratec would work. Looks the same as the photos in post #1. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=3790131

I Found One:
XS4Z9F972DA Ford Sensor - Fuel Injector Pressure
on ebay from
ford-parts-depot
It appears to be working but have only put 5 miles.
One thing that has happened which I don't think is related but began the first time I started the car after replacing is the following electrical do not work:
Radio
Key-less entry remote
Side mirror remote
Interior light
The sensor that prevents you from removing the ignition key unless in park
These are the things I have found so far.

Okay, that part number crosses to a Standard FPS4, Wells SU13803/6 or an Airtex 5S12391, all of which are readily available. Strange than none of the cross references found the parts by application, but when looking to see the applicable vehicles that they fit, the 2000 Contour is listed (as well as others).

The electrical problem is likely a blown fuse. Check fuse F34 under the dash. It's common to everything you listed.

X52f-9f972-od ? It may be wrong cause I couldn't really see the part number 99 Ford contour lx 2.5 4 cylinder fuel rail injector connector

I had to order mine for a 2001 ford focus. I have a 99 contour 2.0 that was built end of may of 99, so my car is more of a 2000 than anything, but when the parts aren’t lining up I change it to a focus. I found it on carparts.com for less than $30. Napa charges over $200 for one. The other stores out here in NotCal don’t carry them unless special order. Just be careful with the o ring when you pop it back in, it’s easily pinched and hard to tell until you get pressure there again, then it’s all telling! This is the most painstaking vehicle I’ve ever wrenched on! 3 years into my ownership and I’m pretty sure I’ve replaced and rewired everything under the hood on the outside of the engine. Currently replacing the timing belt again (50,000) miles between, because the rubber seal on my harmonic balancer started coming out and vibrated the bolt just enough to cause a wobble and throw everything off. I’ve put 56,000 miles on her in those 3 years though. It’s a love hate relationship at this point.
