I know this has been covered 1,000,000 times, but has anyone been able to come up with a simple reason to why it happens? or how to fix it, besides replace everything. i've been through the archives every which way and all i can find is a ton of people claiming they have the same problem. for those who have no idea what im taking about...it seems that almost everytime someone bypasses their factory amp to put in an aftermarket HU the driverside door speaker puts out 0-10% of what it's capable of.

Well this is happening to me right now. Thats why I'm going to bypass the amp. I believe that's what causing the problem. Did you already bypass the amp when you installed the aftermarket HU?

I have never had that problem with any installs I've ever done.... It seemed to do that when I had the factory radio and amp though sometimes it would seem as if a speaker on one side would shut off......

Or possibly it's just you... you sit much higher than the speaker on the drivers side, which means the sound has a harder time reaching your ear... especially when you put your leg against that covering for the speaker on the drivers side... you should hear the passenger side much easier since the speaker has more of a line of sight to your ear, so the sound wave is obscured from reaching your ear... so maybe it's just you and adjusting to sound... That's just a crazy theory of mine though...

Bringing back from the dead. I just thought my front left speaker was blown but nope. I guess my next step is to bypass the factory amp, however I just plugged in a schose 15b bypass harness and only the front right speaker worked so I'm a little worried... I'm chalking it up to the harness but I dunno, that bypass was a pretty straightforward harness. Connected the two plugs going into the amp together so I'm not sure wth could have gone wrong... Wth why does the speaker wiring suck so much in these cars? Yes I know my polarity is correct, I quadruple checked when I installed these speakers.

I noticed my front left speaker wasn't working today either. I adjusted the fade all too the front and the balance all to the left, cranked the volume up a bit and all of a sudden it starting working again.

I adjusted everything back to the middle and it works fine, for now.

p.s. I have the factory stereo system.

What is the 15b harness? The only thing I use is the wide black speaker harness that comes with the non-amplified harness kit. I unplugged my factory amp from the bottom ran wire from the HU to the "wide black spk plug" wired them together and plugged it into the part i unplugged. I don't have any problems with mine and haven't the whole 7yrs I've owned my csvt.

See the other thread I made about that 15B harness. Unsure why it would make only the front right speaker work... I know how to do the manual re-wire but I wanted to try and avoid it. At any rate, at least I can cut the adapter harness I have in half and use the wide black plug side of it to wire in like in the how-to. I still want to figure out wth is going on with the front left speaker being quiet though...

After I bypassed the factory amp everything was working great. Nowadays my drivers door speaker loses the "highs" every now and then  I was chalking up to a speaker problem but now hearing bout your problems I'm not sure now.

Good to know, lol at 3 years between responses. What the search feature is for though I guess. Thanks for letting me know that bypassing fixed it. Methinks I am going to try it tomorrow. I might just do it in the parking lot at work during lunch. Not like I have much else going on for that hour haha.
