So I got some 3" spectre flexible air duct and after about an hour of work I finally managed to shove it through the fender area where the stock airbox pulls from and I've got a y piece thats going to go down by the bumper cover. The way I'm gonna set it up is to split it right by the fender and move both fog lights more towards the center and hook the tubes up to the empty foglight area leaving the area around it to act as a funnel, Once I get it all put together I'll let you know how it runs

Who cares where the fog lights go? At least he's making something functional...
Yeah, it's about time something different was done around here. I've actually always wondered what a CSVT would look like with the fogs in the center grille. Mani did it for brake ducts, and everyone blasted all over their comps about it. This kid makes an intake, and people begin to jump his unwilling bones about it...

IMO, the few extra HP he MIGHT get from this mod are not worth destorying the good lines of the front end.

Like said above, just run the ducting to the mesh. It will look 10x better, and still function the way your looking for.

im not against his idea , i actually like it , i say keep the duct behind the front mesh and leave the fogs alone thow .,. and im pretty sure i read someware that ram air on our cars is a waste of time ?

Wouldnt it be better to put your air duct in the middle instead of moving the fog lights. Moving the foglights isn't going to look good at all. Have fun jerry rigging something up. I'm sure it will look "from the factory" :troutslap:

well it's his car and if he wants to move the fog lights big deal, and if he does a good job and is happy with it then good on him. what skin is it off your back if it doesn't look "factory"

and once again, it's his car. however, how can fresh cold air being forced down a tube and into the air box be detrimental?

i'm really getting tired of all of the "if you don't do it like us and have an SVT with a 3L then your car is crap" attitude. what happened to this forum being for contour enthusiast and not just the SVT owning elitists?

i still want to see some pics.

It's not any skin off my back. I just think he'll be really unhappy with the look, especially when it looks "garagatronic". Nobody likes a job thats half ass.

Yeah, I agree - it's not that he shouldn't do it the way he wants but why sacrafice the look for something that isn't any more functional that other kits that retain the look. Just might look too cheap and most are just saying that but in a different way.

that is what photoshop is for. take a picture of the car and see what the fog lights look like in the middle. its not that hard

hmmm, didn't know that, but my way is still way cheaper, plus its going to basically force air into the motor.

fwiw, the "ram air" effect doesn't do much of anything below ~200mph. The main benefit of such a mod would be to pick up engine air from a colder location than the engine compartment.

IMHO, if you want to duct something to the foglight openings, brake cooling ducts would be a much better choice.

no reason to be an ass , i was simply stating something that i read on this forum , and if your so tired of all the "crap" then your more than welcome to leave

How is the Ram air setup proposed by the OP any different than the one that BAT has sold for years? Realistically would the setup provide any real improvement on a stock SVT setup?

BAT doesn't sell their kit anymore I don't think. At least I couldn't find it in their catalog. Since the engine draws in more air than you can "ram in" I wouldn't think there would be a huge difference in air temps whether its drawing from the front of the car or the drivers side fender well, especially at high way speeds.

I'm still missing the part where this is half-assed? I guess it's because he's just doing something on his own instead of buying something already made that you put on with a few bolts. I'm willing to bet he'll be more than happy with it for the sole reason he did it himself.

I suppose that means I'm going to also be half assing a project real soon when I make my snorkel out of parts from Home Depot for $400 less than the cost of just buying something premade that's "pretty."

I think Brake ducts on a track car is a great idea... other than that the fender well is fine.... the more bends you have the more restriction it causes plus he'll probably be using a dryer duct style tube which causes large restrictions in flow ( i work with air balancers on HVAC systems all the time in commercial buildings)
