Ford SVT Sedan? Fusion Info

I think it's disappointing what Ford has done with SVT the vehicles they come out with are awesome each in their own way. IMHO they should always have the Mustang, a pickup, and a sedan that way all bases are covered. Just like in 99 or even 2003 where the CSVT was replaced by the FSVT I hope they can get the program back on track because as I said I'm kinda disappointed in them right now.

they have always done excellent work, but its along the same lines as the Bugatti Veyron, Its not to make a profit, but to show off.

Ford never really made that big of profits off of SVT sales considering how much was spent in research and development of the upgraded engine components on the cars.

I don't think it would take long to get one done considering they only do 1 car at a time and everything they need is available. The 3.5, awd, and 6 speed. The cyclone produces 265 hp now right? In the hands of SVT I don't think 280-300 would be improbable. And in an awd manual I'd shell out 28k as long as it included a 100k 10 yr bumper to bumper. But that's just me, and I am extremely loyal to Ford.

Of course you could look at it from the stand point that the special bits that go on the SVT cars could show up in the regular production cars at a future date. So, the R&D wouldn't necessarily be 'wasted' only on the limited edition cars.

...Granted, it does seem like a lot of money for a FWD/AWD sedan from an AMERICAN company...

What's this about? That's the only kind of car company that'll get my money. There's no quality gap. Detroit is great -- and getting better.

Oh...well...you know the drill. Some people are reluctant to spend a lot of money on an American car. This particular topic has come up before and it was surprising how many people thought the SVTC was too expensive when new. That was my point and I was vindicated by the reply that indeed, the SVTC was considered too expensive when it came out.

Yes, but one of the criteria for an SVT model was that there had to be a strong business case. As in, they had to make money, or at least not lose money, and create prestige or "goodwill" for the Ford brand. This was the problem with the SVT Focus. It just didn't sell as well as expected -- especially not in Canada! It's a shame too, as it was a great car.

I still remember the SVT Focus arriving at our local SVT dealer. They got sixteen for MY 2002. When the 2003s were about to arrive, they had 14 02's on the lot. One former CEGer bought his '02 SVT Focus after the '04s arrived.

I hold out hope for Ford coming to its senses. They have good products around the world -- They just need to start selling them in North America. You become profitable by selling cars people want to buy -- Carlos Ghosn proved this at Nissan.

I was lookin' at the MKZ a few weeks ago when I had the Cougar at the dealership. Nice Fusion sized package for $30k that includes AWD and the 260+ HP D35, if only it was available with a manual...

Every car pub that could get their hands on an SVT Contour lavished praise of all sorts on that car regarding looks, handling, seats, power, and value. To wit:

Not having the money to buy the car does not make it overpriced; it makes it unaffordable to the individual in question.

Conversely, some things are just overpriced, and do not represent good value. An $11 martini in Miami, for example.

better be a big martini! lol

A 6 speed manual AWD Fusion with a turboed 3.5 duratec would totally be a cream dream, and would certainly be on a very short list for new cars when I get a real job after college. Too bad they'll probably never do it.

that would really be great but I doubt we would see it though

I don't think we will see the turbo in the 3.5, if they can get close to 300hp NA I bet that's what we'll see. I am keeping my hopes up!

now that would be a nice Lincoln!

The Lincoln MKR concept. 3.5 twin turbo V6. We'll see.
